idk, for me the quality of rapping remains pretty constant on Doom records until he falls off in the late 2000s, and i feel like this is the one that best embodies its time and place (late 90s New York Rawkus/Fondle Em underground rap).

Some track on VV are great, but among his early 00's albums, this one features him at his most 'standard', definitely not as unique and colorful as Madvillainy.

Tbqh pic related is the only DOOM album that can give a fight to Madvillainy. The production isn't anywhere near Madlib's stuff, but this is the only album in which DOOM possibly raps better. I'm not entirely sure, because the rhymes are less distinctive, nowhere near as iconic, but it has so many great flows and bars...

Well it's got very dense rhyming, strange, yet varied and fresh production that fits DOOM, who's given a personality throughout the album, obscure references, and it's funny at times. It's all really very good, plus Dumile's got a good backstory, so I can understand why a lot of people like it, but it's definitely style over substance imo. It hasn't really won my heart like The College Dropout did despite it being objectively better in a few areas, but that might change with more listens.
