I really started to appreciate sad albums much more when I was really sad myself.

Sounds like most of /mu/ to be honest.

I like that "bittersweet, cheerful but melancholic acceptance of fate while still surviving despite it being the end of it all" style to music myself, but I feel almost euphoric from it, not depressed.

I guess I'm happiest where most people find sorrow

i get so much more during depressive solace states with non-representational and abstract music like drone (radigue, niblock), ambient, and some contemporary classical

mind, i separate those pits from the "feeling so sad :((((" sort of 'depression' and feel most of these threads are just reiterations of building an aesthetic around muh sadness
