if you have a what.cd account grab all of Reinbert de Leeuw's recordings.

Schoenberg Ensemble Edition, Vol. 4 and Ríkadla have excellent recordings of his vocal works as well as some arrangements for other works.

Rudolf Firkušný is good for the piano works. Mackerras or Gregor in the operatic works.

Your friendly reminder that G*rmans, not Jews, are responsible for the degeneracy going on in various art forms and especially in art music.

>Bach
Single-handedly killed emotion with his complexity wank.

>Schoenberg
Turned music into cacophonous nonsense.

>Wagner
His power metal-esque bombastisn-over-substance compositions influenced a whole generation of frustrated teens to take the National Socialist path decades later.

>Stockhausen
Took Schoenberg's formula even further. Responsible for electronic """"""""music"""""""".

And, these are just the brightest examples.

If your top 5 composers happen to be of G*rman origin, heck if your favorite composer happens to be of G*rman origin, you just hate music, plain and simple.

Liszt's 1st piano concerto has a little memey bit with triangle in the 3rd movement

Haven't heard these but my guess is no. Play Brouwer's 12 etudes and F. Sor's guitar studies and some Tarrega stuff.

With classical guitar (probably any instrument desu) the basiscs are crucial. Fingerpicking i.e. not using i or m finger twice in a row... is crucial to learn if you want to tackle harder pieces. Also, you should look to have your right and left hands in the right position, and nails on your right hand is a must, especially on the thumb.

How to get into opera?
I've listened extensively to classical music, but every time I approach opera my research gets to a stop. I really don't get why I should like it most of the time, even when I'm listening to guys that everyone quotes, like Mozart or Strauss.

Can you give me some insight? Why do you guys like it?

You like it for the same reason you look other classical music, duh. It just has a story to go with it.

I don't really agree with much of this list, but it's still a decent start.

Really, the hardest thing about getting into classical is starting out. And as far as I'm concerned, anything that helps you do that is fine. Every develops their own tastes/preferences anyway.

I've listened for the first of time to Leonhardt's Art of Fugue, and I've noticed that he often slows the whole music down, similarly to how I do it when I'm not really comfortable with the piece I'm playing.

Does he do it because the art of fugue is too hard for him or there is a reason behind such a choice? (Maybe linked to the instrument?)
>>
>>68399169
Because Mozart was a fucking madman with poor self control and an addictive personality, the film was correct about that stuff
>>
>>68403208
He's a good player and the Art of Fugue isn't incredibly difficult to play or anything (although there are a few that can be relatively difficult, especially at higher tempi). He's probably just doing it for stylistic purposes. Among HIPsters, Leonhardt is definitely a bit more free, it isn't unusual to hear a ritardando from him.

Any of you guys play classical music yourself? Just interested in seeing the correlation between classical listeners and actual (amateur or pro) performers

I've been playing classical music for about 20ys now, but I barely listen to recordings.

How to overcome a personal dislike for a particular instrument?

For some reason I truly hate the way classical guitar (and electrical guitar, when played in a virtuoso manner) sounds, and I think I'm really missing out on all the good stuff out there.

Listening to it nonstop for weeks will make me accostumed to it or will I just end up hating it more?

I'm asking here cause probably most of you guys have took class in listening to music.
>>
>>68407611
At this point becoming a good musician would probably take me 10+ years of practice, i just don't have time for it.
>>
>>68407773
As a piano and wind instrument player, I don't quite get acoustic guitars. It is capable of polyphony, but controlling the dynamics of simultaneous voices is even harder than on the piano, and I often get the impression, that the flow of guitar pieces often feel disrupted by the challenging playing technique, yielding in low returns on investment so to say.
Monophonic melody playing is not a thing for classical guitar, but for accompaniment or basso continuo, it's okay.

As for electric guitar, it feels like a whole different matter. With all the distortion and the reduced decay, it works nicely for carrying a melody, similar to a Plenum setting on a pipe organ. But then again, their main genre is at best related to baroque style.

Went to a really interesting concert for clarinet and tape/electronics earlier. Programme was

>New York Counteproint - Reich
>In memoriam Stuart Marshall - Lucier
>Threnos for 1,2,4,8 Bass Clarinets, Real and Virtual - Austin

The Lucier went on a bit too long (basically long notes on a bass clarinet played against a sine wave, highlighting the 'beating' effect you get when two notes sound together) since it didn't have a progression like 'I Am Sitting in a Room' but the effect was pretty cool nonetheless.
>>
>>68407773
Bach and Vivaldi's suites/concerti for mandolin/lute are pretty engaging and might be a way in. Otherwise Boccherini's Fandago quintet is pretty good.

>>68407611
I do a lot of classical singing, but I'm still a student. Thinking about doing a postgrad and going pro in earnest. In my experience, most of the singers are work with are musical retards who don't really engage with classical music beyond whatever they are performing. Instrumentalists are slightly better, but it's only exceptional ones who really care.

In my experience, most people under 30 who listen to classical music beyond 'Yeah I love Bach, Beethoven... the list goes on' are people who perform it. After that, it jumps to the 60+ crowd who don't perform, but attend the stuff religiously.

>>68407773

There is a piece, it has something about "death" or "blackness" in its title. I think the author is a German composer, though I am not 100% sure.

Somewhere I read the Nazis allegedly put it on when burning jews in the gas chambers or just generally in CZ camps. This piece of history/rumor might help identify it.

Anyone have any idea what exactly it is called? I just can't remember.

Question from a non-classical pleb (originally prog rock): I want to get into classical music but I already have musical preferences. I really love both melancholic and romantical pieces and I loved the few things I heard from Chopin so far. I don't have any preferences about the instruments - solo, orchestra, opera, everything's fine for me.
Which artists would you recommend and is there anywhere I should start? Every bit of help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Was trained classically in regards to the piano for about 5 years. I got to an upper-high intermediate level, and can play a decent amount of pieces. My grasp on theory is pretty weak though, but I am able to at least fluently read music

I mostly listen more than I do play, and am trying to learn best how to write about music.
>>
>>68407611

Related question: what was your experience in starting playing classical music late?
I'm 20 and I'm seriously considering dropping most of my hobbies (drawing and photography) and start playing piano at least 4 hours everyday (I'm extremely disciplined and I know I can mantain this level of exercing for years).

Will I ever catch on concert pianists who started when they were 3? I really want to master the instrument.
