Anyone know what Joplin Rice has been up to? He released an album last year but haven't heard anything from him since. Used to be the king of these threads back in 2014
>>68333018
Commute (Road Rage Mix) has some cool quality. I'd which for some lower tones to come into the mix. It all seems like 1 gigantic build up with no purpose. I didn't like the drums on supermarket but I know the struggle of making these kinds of idm drum patterns.

I like the singing and the light guitars. The mixing on the drums sounds kinda off. Pretty catchy. I like it!

The bassline of "Plerion" reminded me of Alan Fitzpatrick in a way. "Aokigahara" has a nice athmosphere and a beautiful soundscape. The same is true for "The Life of Martin". Excellent job.

Description:
"A collection of home recordings. My first solo release."
-Mikhail Alex
Mikhail Alex's debut release is what I like to call stumbling reflection. A softly rasp and dusty voice, equivocal to songwriters like Elliott Smith and Alex G, blends with both shimmering and rusted guitars, a full band sound, and patchy lyricism of everyday introspection and delinquency, in order to create one EP that leaves the listener in solemn wonder, and hoping for a taste of more.
Support, scrobble, or review on RYM. Any feedback of any kind would be greatly appreciated. And give Mikhail some love. Thank You. :)

A lot of people actually give decent feedback here. You're exactly what is wrong with these threads.
>>68339697
tbhfam we just use recs as ways of supporting each other (those You's look mighty fine once you rack up enough) but yes, we've learned to look at the actual statistics for genuine feedback.
The stuff that can't be seen, like amount of downloads/plays you're getting, is what should be the real indicator to whether or not your art is successfully reaching others in an effective manner. Even if people do leave feedback, art is not something that has an objective guideline. Whether someone likes it or not is not something that should be your concern, otherwise you might throw in the towel now since you will never make something that will please everyone.
As far as actually objective qualities that can be criticised (like quality of recording, producing), well, there's ways to improve that but really that depends on the artist and if they should choose to improve it. So even criticism that's meant well could be useless when the artist has already chosen a path and vision to follow.
Anyways, the point is, don't get hung up on recs, plays, etc. because you never know if you might end up making the next ITAOTS (an album that not only received mixed reviews but was a bit overlooked) and change the musical world down the line. You just have to stick to a vision you believe in, the rest will speak for itself.

I actually review music like 7 of 10 times i post here, even though most of the time I dont even get a listen. Yeah, its kinda sad that most of the people here dont even care for anyone, but its the same bullshit IRL.
Bandcamp threads are blatant self promotion of shitty music (in every other place I would get banned for posting my crap). BUT, if you find someone you like tell them, download their stuff or even buy their shit. I even buy digital releases from time to time to give my "thumbs up" on those people.

Too bad your shit is much more interesting, because it brings something new to the table, or memorable at least. I don't care if something's slightly outstanding among the millions, I want to hear something new, something I haven't heard a lot before.
>>68341954

YESSSS
NEW PLEASANCE HOUSE CONFIRMED
Leave AOTY 2017 to him
can you give us descriptors of it?
As for me, I've been really content with the reception Arrayed has been getting. I was given the chance to be interviewed by this Canadian radio show and they found out about my music through one of their long time listeners. So the fact that this was 6 months after the release of the album tempts me to refrain from releasing any new material so it will have a chance of reaching more people.
In the meantime I'll just be saving up for instruments for the new album when I finally get around to it and perform a bit in 2017. Thanks for asking btw
>>68343380
The first thing I'm doing is little bit odd, just in terms of presentation, because it's a bit of old music with a lot of new music. With the second thing I'm definitely trying to up the game with instrumentation, production, song structure, etc. I will definitely try to live up to your impossibly high expectations, probably after 2017 actually
And yeah I've seen that you've gotten some good publicity man! I have been feeling the same way about just promoting what you have out, take some time getting what you have out there and use that time working to follow it up with something great
-PH
