It's not the best song, but the chorus is so cute, Brian imitating a cuckoo clock.

I get that the Summer Days (and summer nights) version has a more fleshed out arrangement, with better production values, but I always felt the production was still better on the Today!! version. The vocals are better, and the whole thing has more energy. Plus, if you listen to the mono version, the drum buildup in the middle gets just below the threashold of peaking and it's hype af

What's your deal with Fun Fun Fun? It's arguably a better song than Do You Wanna Dance.
>>68330907
not the guy youre replying to but in case you didnt know you wanna dance was a cover
>>68330834
In my opinion, if you wanted to do a summer/girls/cars BB song, you could do much better in my opinion. For example, I like All Summer Long a lot more than Fun Fun Fun. It's a purely subjective.

You just triggered the "Pretentious music history and theory enthusiast" part of me so fucking much. I'll refrain from sperging out and say I'll agree to disagree, however I will suggest you read about Phil Spector's influence on Brain, and "wall of sound" theory in general.

So in case you weren't aware, Phil Spector essentially invented "Wall of sound", wherein a producer uses the studio itself as an instrument, playing so many parts simultaneously that it mixes as it bounces around the studio, creating, well, a wall of sound. Since Spector was hot shit at the same time that Brain was really finding himself as a producer, Spector heavily influenced Brian. In an effort to emulate Spector, Brian arranged Do You Wanna Dance, a popular Bobby Freeman song with "Wall of Sound" on mind. In fact, if you want to see how heavily influenced it is, listen to that track and "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes (whose producer was Spector) one after the other and notice the similarities. Brian took Spector's established style and improved it immensely. The arrangement is beautifully complex, both in writing and execution, and shows how skilled Brian had become at this point.
Now, take a look at Fun, Fun, Fun. It contains a very standard (albeit admittedly catchy) guitar/bass/drums arrangement that mainly served as a vehicle for the lyrics. There is no experimentation in the arrangement, it was simply a "what do the audiences want to hear" kind of deal.
TL;DR (I won't blame you, I'm tired so what I just wrote is probably incoherent): DYWD contains a much more complex wall of sound arrangement, while Fun^3 contains a standard rock arrangement, making DYWD a objectively (as in based in solely on complexity of music, not how good it actually sounds) better song.
>yfw you discover this pathetic little outfit is this universe's version of the legendary early 20th century group The Wrecking Crew
I'll stick to my timeline, thank you very much.

I think you're underselling Fun Fun Fun if not just because the vocal round at the end is very intricately detailed, especially for its time. It's blissful four part harmony; Mike's bass melody is very catchy and is completely unique at the time of its appearance, and the same goes for Brian's soaring falsetto, both of which are bolstered by a two part harmony that stays comfortably on the melody.

Instrumentally, yeah, Do You Wanna Dance is better, but imo Fun Fun Fun has better vocal arrangements, especially at the end there. As a bonus, they actually wrote Fun Fun Fun.
