But maybe popstars have the power to have an impact on the psyches and thinking processes of the population and the fans, as they have control over the lyrics they choose to release. I think they were definitely looking to categorize on trends in the stagnating rock genre but there was still plenty of 80s shit for them to pump out, I don't think they had the grunge era planned out by 87. I think you're giving the jews too much credit, they sell whatever people will buy, they don't need to plan it that much.

In 90-91, there was a major rush to sign alternative bands and rappers and ditch stadium buttmetal. Most bands who came out before the 80s were dropped from airplay and labels (notable exception: Aerosmith). While even many 60s bands like the Rolling Stones and Beach Boys could still get radio play in the late 80s, by the 90s they were booted from all but CRR.

I didn't say they planned it, I said they figured out from studying the indie rock scene (which included Nirvana and Soundgarden) and conducting marketing research what the next big trend was going to be. And the marketing research found that what kids wanted to hear wasn't Van Halen and Ratt.

Fair enough. Honestly though the indie scene in the late 80s was so muddled I don't think anyone could have accurately predicted what would become popular. And keep in mind alternative wouldn't have turned into a full blown era of music without Kurt's pretty face and tragic life all over MTV.

It wasn't automatic of course, RHCP became superstars in the early 90s and they were Los Angeles guys closer in spirit to Van Halen than Nirvana.
