music should be a pure expression of creativity, not a way to shove your political views in people's faces
it feels manipulative and stupid, it's always either confirmation bias or a jehovah's witness visiting in your ear
>>

people make art about things that interest them and are relevant to their lives. if you dont mind love songs then why would you mind political songs? both are just some dude talking about things he's been thinking about. it just doesn't make sense unless you hate all lyrics and listen exclusively to instrumental music or white noise

love is something that's relevant to everyone's life, something that both a nazi and a communist can enjoy
heavily political music just creates boundaries. if it's liberal you know only liberals will listen, and noone will ever be swayed by it because music is not about argumentation or logic, it's just pure, emotional confirmation bias

not necessarily
everyone had to listen to Tubthumping

Not all political albums are necessarily bad though.

but love is a deeply individual/divisive thing too. there are love songs about falling out of love, being discarded, hurting your lover, being hurt by them, etc. the level that someone relates to music is going to change depending on the way the artist approaches whatever they're singing about. not all love songs take the same approach, not everyone can relate to every love song, & love songs can be divisive too

its fair that political music creates harsher divisions on average, but that doesn't mean that its unique in drawing people who can relate more directly to the content. i just don't see it as unique and i wouldn't seek out apolitical music just because "aaah its about fascism i can't relate :("

avoiding media just because it doesn't apply to you seems like a good way to box yourself in tbth

>>68319270
fair enough, but goddamn do I hate it when I like a band's music and they just have to shove their edgy political opinions to distract me from that
this might be connected to me prioritising the music over the lyrics
more apolitical general reflections on society are fine with me though

Contextually political music has a very short life span though. Who the fuck wants to listen to someone yell about Bush now? Does Immortal Technique still have a career?
