Let's have a vinyl love thread. I hope you're all doing fine today.
>vinyl setups
>latest purchases
>your favorite/rare records
>etc.
As for the people who prefer other formats such as CD and cassette, we love you too.
>spending money on things

Vinyl is for hipster morons. There's nothing to appreciate.
Aw hell yeah
My most recents, I got Encylopedia at my local record store and Mobo at their Oct.2 show.
I have a shitty Leetac record player from 92'. Friend gifted it to me since I had to buy a needle for it. But I mean not bad start to began collecting
Personally I collect both, but vinyl is more so a sovienair for me since I only buy at shows or unless it's a album I personally feel is a 10/10
CDs are more in my price range since you can actually find some good ones at thrift stores for a dollar.
I guess my most rarest record would be The Smiths "Ask" maxi single 12'. Still trying to figure out if it's a original or reissue
Whats a good vinyl player around $150 CAD?
Just got Dear and the Headlights album Small Steps, Heavy Hooves and LSD and the Search for God. Both should be coming in the mail tomorrow or Saturday. I just have a cheap setup but I like spending money on music I like. It has a sentimental value to me. Ill have about 30 vinyls total after they arrive.

>$150 CAD
good luck finding any turntables for 25 cents
The most recent LP I bought was "Face Value" by Phil Collins. Picked it up at a second-hand record store for five bucks.
I just bought ITAOTS today and listened to side 1.
No regrets, god tier album worth the splash of cash.
Also got FLAC download too which was very surprising.
Splurged on Björk albums this week - bought the coloured vinyl reissues of Post, Vespertine and Medulla. Heard the Homogenic reissue was really bad quality though :(
I'm looking to buy a (used) vinyl player. Any tips on what to look for while shopping?
>>68293410
A turntable. Make sure you have that.
Seriously though, make sure you know what equipment you have/need. It's not gonna be a plug and play thing.
>>68293410
Get one that was made in the 80's, that was the last decade when there were significant improvements in record players. Make sure the cartridge isn't a proprietary design of the company that made the turntable, it's very hard to find replacements for those. You'll want a standard mount or a P-mount cartridge.

>>68293456
Will keep that in mind, thanks
Haven't gotten anything lately but waiting on some pre-orders

Pre ordered the repress for Sir Sypro - Topper Top

>>68295738

AEBBTW is going to be repressed and it's up on preorder.
anyone preorder the Islands' Return to the Sea 10th anniversary remaster?
>>68293410
antiskate, counterweight, and the ability to swap out carts. if you've got the cash i highly recommend getting a dual 1229; they're fantastic tables and are built like bricks. i think the platter alone weighs seven pounds.
just bought an audio technica lp120, its currently in the mail. what do i have to know before i start using it? ive only used a shitty numark for the last few years.
>>68297430
Just follow the instructions. The ATLP120 has a built-in phono preamp, so you can only hook it up directly to a pair of amplified speakers if you don't have an amp/receiver and passive speakers.
Picked up a few 45s in Kenya last month while travelling.
They were all pressed in Nairobi but they're from all over East Africa.
I recently bought Tame Impala's self titled EP released on the Hole int the Sky label. Also, I found Quicksilver Messenger Service's What About Me and the EP version of Magical Mystery Tour a while ago.
Went in to HMV earlier. Nice to see they finally started selling things that aren't fucking Crosley.
The records are still obscenely priced though. £25 for Wildflower. Fuck off. Now the £ is fucked importing things is ridiculous too.
i love listening to vinyls and knowing your getting the best quality
>>68298331
You forgot to capitalise the "I" at the start of your sentence, you cretin.
>tfw listens-to-vinyl-on-headphones pleb
>>68298022
that's really dope
>>68298022
Any of them on Youtube so I could listen?
Also, I would love to go to Kenya, you lucky bastard.
>>68291240
>Leetac record player
You're probably destroying your vinyl with that
>>68298412
Thanks!
>>68298433
I'm thinking of ripping (is that the right word with vinyl?) them at some point in which case I'll upload them and link to them from a vinyl thread on here, probably.
There's two record shops in Nairobi, Melodica and Jimmy's. They're the only two I know of anywhere in East Africa, there must be others but they have basically zero online presence so very hard to research in advance.
>>68298433
>>68299487
>>68298022
Why going to Africa tho?
Rate my setup, /mu/
I've got a
>Technics SL-QD33 turntable with a mid-grade audiotechnica cartridge
running through an
>Onkyo TX-830 receiver
to a pair of
>Optimus Mach Two speakers that I've babied and replaced the surrounds on
And what should my next improvement be?
>>68299895
What stylus do you have? The one that came with the cartridge?
>>68300153
Yeah, it's an AT92E with the stock stylus.
Is it worth going for a nicer stylus than that when all I have is a direct-drive P-mount turntable?
I just pre ordered this today.
>>68300206
It depends on the records you're playing. I used that exact same cartridge and stylus before I upgraded. On new vinyl there isn't a lot of difference, but on used and scratched vinyl it's better to have a line contact type stylus. For example a microline or a shibata, these aren't as sensitive to pops and clicks.
>>68300371
looks gay and retarded imho
>>68300371
>one track per disc
Are we reverting back to the 78 days
>>68300504
I would have gotten the one disc version, but I'm a sucker for blue.
>>68300373
That's my big issue, those pops/cracks. I love old vinyl and hate CD remasters, but should I just up and go with a nicer cartridge at the same time.
Jumping to a Grado or something similar has been on my to-do list anyways.
>>68290889
Just picked up Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy on vinyl Ford 12$ brand new
>>68300612
For* cool tablet autocorrect
>>68300551
You're still going to have pops and clicks with a line contact stylus, just not as loud and many. I have transferred a lot of vinyl to digital and while monitoring the recording I noticed a change when I started using the line contact stylus. Before I used to have clicks that were so loud they clipped the waveform, with the new stylus I still haven't had them after a year. AT92E is a good cartridge, there are surprisingly many replacement styli that fit the cartridge.
>>68300612
Oh yeah, they repressed this album recently, it seems. There's no new entry on Discogs yet tho
>>68299800
Why not? I got a fixed term job in Tanzania and then went travelling for a bit.
I actually just snagged Lil Scuzzy on Ebay, super pumped for it to get here
this just arrived
