I'd be on board if it wasn't so fucking expensive. Both to get a setup that doesn't completely blow and to endure the frankly criminal prices they set for new vinyl. >You can see how hipster neighborhoods are crossroads where young people from different origins, all crammed together, jockey for social gain. One hipster subgroup's strategy is to disparage others as "liberal arts college grads with too much time on their hands"; the attack is leveled at the children of the upper middle class who move to cities after college with hopes of working in the "creative professions". These hipsters are instantly declassed, reservoired in abject internships and ignored in the urban hierarchy — but able to use college-taught skills of classification, collection and appreciation to generate a superior body of cultural "cool".
>They, in turn, may malign the "trust fund hipsters". This challenges the philistine wealthy who, possessed of money but not the nose for culture, convert real capital into "cultural capital" (Bourdieu's most famous coinage), acquiring subculture as if it were ready-to-wear. (Think of Paris Hilton in her trucker hat.) Both groups, meanwhile, look down on the couch-surfing, old-clothes-wearing hipsters who seem most authentic but are also often the most socially precarious — the lower-middle-class young, moving up through style, but with no backstop of parental culture or family capital. They are the bartenders and boutique clerks who wait on their well-to-do peers and wealthy tourists. Only on the basis of their cool clothes can they be "superior": hipster knowledge compensates for economic immobility
lol, so which kind of desperate hipster are you anon? the kind who's trying to buy his cool points or the more authentic kind that can't afford to do that?

Find a good store. Do NOT trust stores that don't grade their records. If all they do is slap a price tag on it, don't trust it. Either that, or learn how to grade records yourself so you don't get ripped off.

As for that, you typically just learn how to find what you're looking for. ECM green label albums from the mid 70s are consistently cool, Impulse! albums from the mid 60s, Strata-East, India Navigations, Sagitarrius A Star all great free jazz labels, etc etc

"Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own). One may be quick to coin such interests and garb as "black-rimmed glasses, flannel, and indie music," however said mainstream-avoiding "hipsters" will logically turn down abiding to such a popular consensus, voiding the interpretation null.

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.

tl;dr: if you believe hipsters exist, you are a plebeian.

Yeah, but in the worst way possible, they were either a small print or folded.

I agree, but that's not his point.

>Do you know that many albums realeased in the 80s and 90s had bonus tracks for the cd version only?

You mean the B-sides and EP tracks? Most people already got those in singles and vinyl EPs. Surely it's more convenient way to package it, but for most albums that has a certain flow, bonus tracks might break it, in my opinion.

Sorry to break it to you, but you're a yuppie, not a hipster. Unless you run a financial institution or a multinational, you're not even winning in class warfare. You're just a more privileged member of the working class: a worker in the high-end service industry. Enjoy your high end consumer products and utter lack of control over the political decision-making that shapes your life.

I'll preface this by saying if you're a troll, you're a fun one. If not, hard to believe you're a real person.

Yuppie and hipster are not mutually exclusive terms in my book. But maybe yuppie wasn't the best term for you. What I was trying to suggest was that unless your parents are capitalists, they're not on the winning side of the class war, just more privileged members of the working class. You,I suppose, are a parasite of that. Given that you seem uninterested in anything other other than hedonism (such as having a part in controlling the direction of society), I suppose this wouldn't bother you.

Due to internal conflicts from the introduction of a studio band on some tracks, apparently the vocalists (Hay and Ham) told the rest of the group that they weren't required. In jest or not, it led to the fracture that broke them apart. Subsequently, and in part due to the more mature theme and sound of the album, it led to their complete breakup.

Frankly, I'm glad it died before the quality worsened, but wish there could've been one more album.

I think you'll find I'm a bit too fast for you once we get going

Ouch that's kinda a sad way to go though.
But yeah nothing worse than a good band that ends up going stagnant or getting worse, I can see how its good they stopped when they did.
I wonder how many more hits they might've had left though...
>>
I didn't read a single post in this thread. Is there seriously a vinyl hate thread with 130+ replies?

How do people put this much effort into hating a type of format and not get tired?

Actually I forgot about double-sided CDs

You sound like you think you're an alpha.
The world doesn't operate as simply as you think it does. Don't get so caught up in trying to rationalise everything and convince yourself you're alpha.
I love how Everybody on 4chan seems to think they're some kind of a social elite.

>it sounds better because the waves are rounded and don't come in steps like digital
I've heard people who seriously believed that. People with physics PhD.s
>>
>>68293383
I don't have much of an opinion on the sound quality difference cause I listen to vinyl with shit equipment, but why isn't it true, it makes sense to me but I've never actually looked into it

/mu/'s contrarian hipster nature doesn't allow them to enjoy anything

Basic digital signal processing. Digital signals are indeed quantized, but before hitting your speaker cables the DAC runs a cubic interpolator on the digital signal, making it "rounded" again(and the Shannon-Nyquist theorem guarantees you can get up-to-perfect reproduction of the original signal from a proper sampling).
Those videos made by a dude who worked on the ogg vorbis format offer a pretty accessible introduction to the whole process: http://xiph.org/video/
>>
unless you have an extremely developed musician ear you will not be able to hear the difference in audio quality of a vinyl disk from a compact disk
>>
>>68293596
Interesting, so I assumed the quantised sections of audio are small enough anyway that when it's "rounded off" it's basically indistinguishable from the analogue?
>>
>>68283606
It's 2016 out there, gramps. No need to carry around those giant plastic discs to listen some music.

so this is what /mu/ likes to fight about... every board has the same stupid argument, you can just switch the subject

>>
>>68293832
If we're talking about PCM audio with a bit depth of 16-bits, everything I read indicates that if this isn't absolutely the case then at least it's good enough to be indistinguishable for most people playing music on their non-professional grade devices.

Xiph.org has an article about the whole debacle surrounding Neil Young's 192/24 obsession. It doesn't address the analog/digital controversy explicitly, but it touches upon the limitations of the human ear and how much bit depth/sampling rate is enough to cover it: https://xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

>>68294007
Legit exact same boat
>>
I buy records because the music I listen to is mainly released on record with no digital.

Simple. I don't understand why people shit on other people because of the format that they listen to music on.
If the tune is good you should be happy that you can hear it, and not complain that is not on cd/vinyl/9000kb flac etc.
