I have tried expanding my tastes because I really like the good stuff coming from the stoner metal genre. I have found a lot of really bad music though.
Stuff I've enjoyed:
>Dopethrone - Electric Wizard
>Come My Fanatics - Electric Wizard
>Electric Wizard - Electric Wizard
>Busse Woods - Acid King
>Houdini - Melvins
Church of Misery is ok too. What else should I check out? I'd really enjoy hearing a band with the same type of heaviness/fuzziness as Electric Wizard but with more doom... Like if Black Sabbath took their sound and pushed it much further into the stoner metal realm. The opening riff from Cornucopia by Black Sabbath is kind of close to what I'm talking about.

Stoner AOTY 2016
Warhorse- While Heaven Turns to Ash
Brilliant album that isn't well known even within doom circles.

this thing crushes your existence ten times over. solid album.

Time to Die is the most pure "doom" wizard album in my opinion.
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats is basically Beatles plus Sabbath and, while not very heavy it's amazing. Start with Blood Lust.
And then for just pure heaviness there's always Bongripper and Conan. Very monolithic and fuzzed out. Try Satan Worshipping Doom and Revengence.
>yfw black sabbath started metal
>yfw the first form metal took on was borderline stoner metal
stoner metal is pure.

This is a must. It's closer to psychedelic because it's softer, but you have to listen to it.
Anyone else really like this? Only album of theirs I've listened to, but it was great
>>68282251
describe it in 3 words and I might listen to it
Any epic doom recommendations? I've listened to basically all of Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus and I'm looking for more that's worth listening to.
Hate Ashbury > all
Just listened to Revengeance by Conan per that anon's suggestion. It was pretty good.

Pilgrimage is Om's best album check that one at as well. Basically check everything out that Al Cisneros was involved with.

I like the sound of this album, but I think it's way too noisy for me. Is there anything similar, but 'cleaner'?
>>68281250
I'm looking for something fuzzy, trippy and heavy but with non abrasive lyrics. help me out here anon. Ive checked out kyuss, bongzilla, weedeater, sleep, electric wizard etc.
>>68281250
I've enjoyed that album twice, despite many attempts. First time was the first time I listened to it, the second time was one of those absurdly hot and humid days where your blood turns into sludge and you can't even stand sitting in the shade. Perfect music for days like those.

Kyuss, but aliens.
Man why does it seem like this genre is so lacking? There really seems to be room for so much more. And the concept has been around since literally 1970.

>Man why does it seem like this genre is so lacking?
It really does seem that way. You've got a the handful of genre titans, like 7-8 lesser known bands that are worth anything, and then everything else is either shit or doesn't focus on the aspects of the genre you like.
>>68286999
Too many bands focused on 'muh asthetic' and 'muh tone' rather than quality songwriting.
We need more geniunely experimental/crossover doom. Like I can't think of a doom/stoner band that does as much changing up from album to album as like Sunn O))) for example.

it's not really "stoner" metal, but Pallbearer fits the bill

1. Anyone check out the new Novembre album? It's pretty cool progressive death/doom. Their first album in a while and it's more doomy than death so enough for this topic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPxsFvABsqE
2. Any recs on doom metal that's got a black metal tinge on it? Raw/primitive with melodic undertones and organic transitions kinda stuff.
>>68281367
Check out
Magic Circle - s/t
Clutch - Blast Tyrant
>>68281509
I try to post this album every time I see one of these threads. It's criminal that this album doesn't get the love it deserves. Came out around the same time as Dopethrone, is similarly heavy yet also retains this like psychedelic tone.
>>68286999
But it's not that lacking. You want something that's more or less blues? Check out early Sabbath stuff. You want groovy riffs? Check out stoner stuff. You want savage sounding stuff akin to death/black metal? Check out death/doom stuff. You want weirdly uplifting rewarding listens? Check out epic doom. You want a more ambient, atmospheric approach? There's funeral doom. You want something more energetic? Sludge. You enjoy minimalism, textures, and microtonal stuff? Drone. Enjoy certain musical aesthetics? Progressive and gothic.
