What do you think of Band on the Run by Wings
>>
>>68263251
Better than any album by the Beatles.

mccartney_ram.jpg
225KB, 706x703px
it makes me think that we're living in wonderful times because you fairly rarely find people anymore who think it's better than RAM

I'm an old person - I remember a time when it was pretty commonly thought that Band on the Run was the best thing McCartney did after the Beatles. That's just silly.
>>
>>68263302
Ram is also better than any album by the Beatles.
>>
>paul
>anything but a talentless hack
>>
>>68263328
it's pretty damn close, actually

certainly it's not as influential, but it's damn cohesive. Dear Boy doesn't really get credit as the ultimate "granny song" Paul ever wrote - shit is just what When I'm 64, Ob-La-Di, Ob-LaDa, Martha My Dear and Maxwell's Silver Hammer and such were trying to be, only actually a great track
>>
>>68263394
Nice 40 year old meme opinion.

Wings > Beatles

You literally can't prove me wrong.
>>
>>68263425
>When I'm 64, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Martha My Dear and Maxwell's Silver Hammer
>not great tracks
>>
8/10

its good but ram is definitely better
>>
>>68263328
I actually just figured out that if you take the A-side of RAM and B-side of Abbey Road you have an absolutely killer album that really shows how having your tracks flow well is valuable to having a good album whole.

That would certainly be the best Beatles album ever.
>>
>>68263474
just saying Dear Boy is for me an even better track in that style - that snark against Lennon really adds it the spice that style always needed
>>
>>68263530
But the B side of Ram is better than the B side of Abbey Road.
>>
It's pretty good. The title track hooked me immediately.

What did you all think of Wings at the Speed of Sound? I always had a soft spot for that album, never see it talked about though
>>
>>68264135
Let Em In and Silly Love Songs are god tier pop songs. Warm and Beautiful is also a lovely. Time to Hide and Beware My Love are way better live on Wings Over America. The only lousy song on Speed of Sound is Cook of the House (Linda's only lead vocal track in Wings).
>>
>>68263549
>that snark against Lennon
[citation needed]
>>
>>68263455

Oh wow it's so great dishonest granny music

I got that album signed by Denny Laine when I saw his last April.
>>
>>68264476
I assume you mean poetically or lyrically illiterate? I can assure you that McCartney was lightyears ahead of Lennon musically. Lyrically they cancel out. John had just as many preachy rich boy political nonsense songs as Paul had nursery rhymes.
>>
>>68264595
>I assume you mean poetically or lyrically illiterate?
I just said "musically", so I suppose you are also illiterate in general?
>I can assure you that McCartney was lightyears ahead of Lennon musically.
That talent is useless if it's dishonest granny drivel.
>preachy rich boy political nonsense songs
Not relevant because they were honest.

>>
>>68265002
Why?
>>
>>68264327
oh I guess it's debatable - there is still some snark to the lyrics whoever it's pointed at and that's what matters

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dear_Boy_(song)
>>
Wings is my least favorite Beatles related project. Just feels so soulless.
>>
>>68264654
a fucking too long triple-album is what it is

might be a good way to show Harrison had all sorts of mediocre compositions in store, but shit's too long obviously
>>
>>68265100
My point is that people just assume it's about Lennon, but there's absolutely no real evidence of it. McCartney lacked the lyrical prowess to add clues as Lennon could with How Do You Sleep, and it just seems more likely it's sung to a made-up character as much as Uncle Albert and Admiral Halsey. Or maybe Linda Eastman's ex-husband.
>>
>>68264760
Every now and then you should ask yourself "do I have any idea what I'm talking about?" It's a good character building exercise.
>>
>>68264501

nice
>>
>>68264902
This.

>>68265002
Your opinion is shit.
>>
>>68265184

Sure, I have on interest in debating this - all that I care about is that it has that confident snark in the lyrics that Paul's Beatles-era granny songs were missing, it's the contrast between the condescending and strong lyrics and sweet harmonies and music that really makes the track a real stand-out for me
>>
>>68265243
Not an argument.

Stop posting anytime
>>
>>68265269
Does it really? or is it all just a dishonest illusion?

Without any context to who it's about, it's not snarky at all. It's more granny music fairy tales.
>>
>>68265116
It's honestly no more soulless than 90% of the Beatles' output.
>>
>>68265271
Welcome to our thread. Feel free to make a circle jerk over Lennon thread.
>>
>>68265306
48% is a more probably estimate
>>
>>68265323
You'd just shitpost in it, wouldn't you? Don't lie.
>>
>>68265348
No because I have a lot of respect for John.
>>
>>68265324
I think you should dedicate more time to listening to Wings if you think that. Particularly Wild Life, OP's pic related, London Town, and Back to the Egg.
>>
>>68265373
Prove it.
>>
>>68264874
Imagine is really an alternative anthem for good reason - beautiful lyrics that were very controversial at the time for someone in his position - still very enduring I think and the more time goes on the less they become controversial and accepted - a remarkable piece of brave songwriting

Apart from that, he made some nice gestures in lyrics, but pretty mediocre overall. Yoko's Why is by far the superior Plastic Ono Band era track either made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCb0TsSIqI0

Yoko is actually a pretty remarkable contemporary artist - always annoys me when people won't take her art seriously because of petty Beatles -shit.
>>
>>68265423
>I think you should dedicate more time to listening to Wings if you think that.
I think you should calculate Paul's contributions to the Beatles (approx 48%) if you think otherwise
>Particularly Wild Life, OP's pic related, London Town, and Back to the Egg.

>>
>>68265304
huh?

it's at least clearly confrontational and boastful unlike Paul's vaudeville -output with the Beatles.

Like I don't know what you're arguing - maybe there's some hidden edge I never heard to When I'm 64 or whatever but what?
>>
>>68265469
>You've listened to those albums?
I wouldn't be here if I didn't.

Band on the Run [Apple, 1973]

I originally underrated what many consider McCartney's definitive post-Beatles statement, but not as much as its admirers overrate it. Pop masterpiece? This? Sure it's a relief after the vagaries of Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway, and most of side one passes tunefully enough--"Let Me Roll It" might be an answer to "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and "Jet" is indeed more "fun" than "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." But beyond those two the high points are the title track, about the oppression of rock musicians by cannabis-crazed bureaucrats, and the Afro-soul intro to "Mamunia," appropriate from relatives of the Nigerian children who posed for the inner sleeve with Sah and helpmates. C+
