nonsense. I'm an oldfag.

4chan was always kind of chaotic neutral but if anything would have been incredibly offensive to progressives because it was always making jew and black jokes. it was hard to tell if it was genuine or not, sometimes yes, othertimes probably just shitposting. either way, it was beyond the pale of what is acceptable to leftists.

>>68259379
complete bullshit, you weren't here obviously but take a gander at posts from the old days and you'd probably find 4chan even more offensive then than it is today. it may be more sincere in its reactionary streak now, but it's also much more decent and reasonable at times (seriously - compared to before...)
>>
>>68259718
/mu/ aren't leftist, they're more neutral

I'm basically neutral too. neutral people can be very critical of PC culture though, and the current state of the left overall. in that way, you'd probably read a lot of their responses to that Solange review for instance as 'alt right' responses. yes, they probably DO agree with the alt right on such things, but they also listen to Death Grips (which again is more chaotic neutral). this doesn't make them leftist.

I listen to a lot of black music, but not because they're black and because I support or give a fuck about some righteous black narrative. I like it because it's good music.

I'm going to listen to the album to see if I like it musically. I'm perfectly open to it being good, tend to like a lot of black artists, and I'll be totally honest if it's good, even if I think critics rate it too much for irrelevant political reasons.

I gave Beyonce's Lemonade a similar shot. I found that mediocre, and all the praise, so much based in political reasons and empowerment, started to get annoying. identity politics should be kept out of music and artistic assessment as far as quality of its impact.

I don't even care if people have pride or love of their own. I kind of think they should - it results in vibrant, distinct cultures, in interesting differences and different places to visit. but it doesn't make me rate their art any more or less.
>>
>>68260215
>Yes it is. White people think this album is "anti-white" just because she respects herself and her race.

>>
>>68260493
whatever dude. I've stopped listening to highly rated black music if it's rated by tmt or pitchfork because it's uniformly mediocre shit

>>68260554
I never said that the music is demanding reparations. it's the reviewers who've realized that they can use their platform for a "good cause" and have found a way to pay cultural reparations. it's disingenuous
>>
>>68260554
it's the critic culture that is doing that on their end, as for your second comments there.

it's a culture of white and jewish nerds who never live around or engage with black people going out of their way to constantly talk up black issues because they were taught to in university and it makes them feel righteous and superior, and a lot of mediocre art gets overrated as a result, while a lot of better black music isn't being praised for anything beyond "isn't it great that this is good and THEY'RE BLACK?!!"
>>
>>68260641
This.

Atrocity Exhibition was vastly superior to this album, yet no bnm. Why? Because Danny didnt talk about "black issues" on it
>>
>>68260619
>I never said that the music is demanding reparations. it's the reviewers who've realized that they can use their platform for a "good cause" and have found a way to pay cultural reparations. it's disingenuous

Hmm...you may have a point there actually. I do notice a lot of media tend to ass kiss to anything non-white just for them to look like they're "caring" or whatever, but I don't pay too much in p4k. Maybe the reviewer actually liked the album. Is that not also possible? Again, this isn't a bad album.
>>
>>68260725
I have no problems with black music or musicians but I mostly go by reviews from other places than tmt or pitchfork in that case. I have no interest in pretending that beyonce is some vanguard artist

now blood orange and solange both go and release completely half-baked, overlong, meandering and mediocre attempts at some kind of new neo-soul pastiche structured solely around interview quotes about blackness and the BLM narrative (not to even mention whatever the fuck """statement""" lemonade was supposed to be)

at least kendrick had kind of an interesting perspective with TPAB but of course that got robbed of any nuance by the people reviewing and pushing it

the chick on solange's record wants to know why "black pride" movements or whatever get labeled anti-white? because of shit like pitchfork's end-of-the-year writeup on TPAB boiling the entire (actually pretty self-reflective) perspective of the album down to "white people need to sit down and shut up"

>butthurt from BLM

there are a lot of very legitimate criticisms of BLM

like how they go rampaging around colleges unreasonably demanding teachers get replaced merely for being white, demand 'safe spaces', their own dorms, etc. they're absurd.

BLM marched down my street once and literally set fire to the Radioshack just the corner down from me, and when some old white hippie guy tried to stop some of the young ones from looting, a young black guy cracked his skull with a hammer. later, when the movement around here was discussing how they might consider not condoning violence, the activists ended up agreeing that something something THE SYSTEM and therefore DIVERSITY OF TACTICS and therefore they're not going to condemn violence.

Can you name some good soul disconnected from "blackness"?. I actually agree with the sentiments of the OP, albums shouldn't be rated higher just because they touch on a pernient issue. The music should be there to solidify and push the message and it should be good to listen to. I'm white and I have no problem listening to music by black people talking about black issues. I don't listen to music by people who live exactly like me all the time.

I don't see how this review is anti white at all.

At the end of the day you can listen to what you want but the more you try and dictate what artists write/sing/perform about you are just trying to whitewash something that never needed to be reduced for your convenience anyway

Not everything has to fit your view of the world. Or if thats how you want to live you can ignore it and leave. Theres millions of other records you can enjoy

Anyway, mixing politics and music is fucking gay and you shouldn't get butthurt about it, right or left. There was some thread earlier /r/ing "conservative punk bands." Are you a fucking retard or something? Art consumption is about expanding your horizons. You seriously can't enjoy a piece of music because it isn't jacking you off politically? You should be able to enjoy it (if it's good) even if it is fucking your beliefs in the ass :)

Thats your hair. If you want people to touch it, whatever . Certain white people act as if black hair is weird or spontaneous they feel the need to touch it like it's a new dog. Especially for black girls, you can't really touch their hair or else you'll mess it up.
>>
>>68261472
kids are kids. they're fascinated by things different. your hair is going to be interesting to them. that's how it is. if you went to a majority black school, the kids would be just as fascinated by the white kids' hair.

I went to a vast majority Mexican school, as a blonde haired blue eyed boy from the midwest. they literally responded to me like I was this pretty girl and would literally grope and molest me in the locker room, try to reach in my pants, make kissing noises at me, because I was this exotic 'pretty blonde' to them. I'm not saying it's wrong. But it's better to ask questions than just diving in and touch people's hair. Like anything, you ask out of curiosity and maybe you could ask to touch. If they say no, don't take it personally.

I listen to artists of different ideologies than mine because I don't give a fuck as long as the music's good. This album isn't good and it's too preachy. It's cool to sing about political issues, but this album just beats you over the head with it. It'd help if the music wasn't boring.

>>68262534
There's no discussion to be had, that's the point. It's literally just meming. There's no argument, there's literally nothing. Nothing to discuss, nothing to debate, because nobody's said anything worth discussing.

Like, the discussion was happening in the posts before some autist decided it would cute to post trump pictures and meme text. I'm not talking about "pro-Trump people" and I'm not talking about "liberals" and I'm not generalizing them I'm talking about two very specific, groups of people, who can be identified by the type of behavior I'm describing.

I'm not even saying I'm neutral. I have an opinion, and some of it leans to one side, some to the other, but there's no point in having that discussion with these people, because there's no in-between for them. Either you agree with them, or you're the enemy. You can't disagree with one aspect, or not fully agree.

I think the point is that it's a protest album that seems to be protesting some of the most trivial things that a person could get upset over.

Yeah I agree. I just can't help but feel that position is one of self satisfaction as well. Not really in terms of being on a side and opposing the other side but rather being defined by being disconnected or opposed to both sides, being rational rather than unrational. But I fall into this category as well so I don't even no why I'm arguing, I'm pretty tired to be honest. I just think its impossible to reason with memes. Its like screaming into the void.

>>68262762
I get where your coming from. I think the conversation wasn't really great from the get go but I agree its frustrating to see it turn into two people memeing at each other. Thats a good point about the no inbetween it just seems almost obtuse to point it out. But then again I'm doing the same thing I'm complaining about.
I think at the end of the day politics doesn't belong on mu unless its within context of an album/song/artist or movement/genre. I don't think free speech should be stifled at all, I think it would be better if the discussion was about the songs themselves and not just the song title

You're missing the entire point. You think it should be "obvious" that touching is innapropriate, yet fail to relaize in some cultures it is. Obvious is a subjective term youre using objectievly to patronize people with different cultural norms than you

Someone seriously explain it to me then. Why is it being ethnocentric to be idealistic? Also, you're twisting what I said. By ideals I mean something like not raping people or maiming them, which I do wish the world could "revolve around". However, I do realize that idealism is still idealism. I understand other cultures are different and that I should not judge them according to my own understanding but I don't think that self aware idealism is ethnocentrism.

Ok, last response buddy.

Its ethnocenteic because you dont get to decide whats "ideal" for everyone. Every culture, hell every indivdual, has different values and understandings about what's ideal. You dont speak for everyone, your beliefs are not universal

But I never said or at least meant to imply in anything that I have posted that that my beliefs are universal. However, I do WISH that certain human rights ideals could be universal but understand there are differences in other cultures that that cause them not to be. If merely wishing a culture could have the ability to have the ideal of not raping women and affording them human rights is being ethnocentric then you are not reading what I am saying to you. You are reading it as if I am judging that culture and assuming they know everything about my culture.
