I'd say their most important trilogy would be Here Comes the Indian/Sung Tongs/Feels. More growth there, you can hear all their growing pains and all the beautiful and uncomfortable emotions that come through on those records. Plus, Feels feels more like the closing of something than the beginning, I think it fits better with Here Comes the Indian and Sung Tongs than with Strawberry Jam and Merriweather. Those albums sound more sober, and more technically accomplished.

Just because there was an audience present during its recording doesn't make Hollinndagain a pointless album that should be discounted like most live albums. Campfire Songs was a completely new direction. Spirit/Danse/Hollinndagain would be their post punk trilogy.

Another thing, their pop trilogy is Strawberry Jam/Merriweather/ODDSAC. ODDSAC was the perfect note to end that phase and decade of their career on, because it combined their new found pop aesthetic with their early experimental roots. Those three releases, though maybe not my favorite, are where they peaked in a lot of ways, because they were having huge success without being weighed down and locked in by it.

I think that Michael Gira's style of songwriting works better as shorter tracks. And the post rock stuff is a bit derivative upon itself in some regards, though I think the Seer is an exception to that. Its my favorite of the trio

And SFTB is another beast, though it laid the groundwork for the trio at points.

And I don't know why you think Campfire Songs and HCTI are meme answers, I truly believe that those are AnCo's best, although every album is really good in it's own right, and most importantly, so different that I don't really think rating them matters. It really comes down to personal preference for them. Their only album that I don't really really like is Feels, but when I'm in the right mood it's killer.

I'm the guy he was going at and I disagree so much. Sung Tongs is fantastic. Especially the vocals. ST has some of the best vocal melodies and harmonies that AnCo has ever done, and the tracks with layered guitar like The Sweetest Voice, Visiting Friends, Mouth Wooed Her, and Good Lovin' Outside are great. And the effects are meticulous. Like the moist crinkling and vocoders throughout some of the tracks, especially Kids on a Holiday. ST is a great album man.

And Water Curses is better than Fall be Kind imo
