what you gotta do is stop talking to people
like all people just cut off human contact
just enter a extended period or intense self-reflection for like a year set to a patrician shugazi soundtrack
should be good after that
Can anyone rec something similar to this other than alvvays? I tuned into dkfm for the first time the other night and it was playing..

Most obvious similar band I can think of is Slowdive.

is there any shoegaze that's good?
being an idiot aside i haven't really liked any of the big names at all (loveless is ok i guess) and i kind of liked that sweet trip album but i'm about to give up on the genre. Is there any kind of weird or unique album you wanna hail mary at me?

>>68218305
If you liked Sweet Trip you might like the second wave of electronic shoegaze. Have you tried M83's Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, Asobi Seksu's Citrus, any of Pinkshinyultrablast's albums?
>>68218344
i remember liking that m83 album i'll have to listen to it again though. I haven't heard the others but i'll check them out thanks
>>68218337
I'm not a big fan of this but I actually seem to remember listening to an album by this band and at least somewhat enjoying it
>>68218344
oh and that reminds me i like Woods of Desolation but not really any other blackgaze
>>68218438
No idea honestly, I don't listen to much blackgaze. Maybe Wolves in the Throne Room is up your alley.
You might also like the drone-ier side of shoegaze, like Belong's October Language, and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's Love is a Stream
I don't even like most shoegaze out there but I really digged this. All their other albums are such a let down though. What is some noise/feedback pop that resembles this or that you would consider essential?
>>68218305
Have you tried Ceres & Calypso in the deep time? It's what got me into shoegaze, a pretty unique album.
So, I'm going to my first shoegaze/darkgaze/slowgaze you know what concert.
How do I enjoy myself there, what do I drink, what do I do, how do I dress?

>>68222021
im >>68222006
I really don't think being able to play a guitar is completely necessary for shoegaze, if you're doing the more noise-type shoegazy stuff
>>68222089

>>68222120
Imagination.
>>68222120

hey shugaziers,
just came here to tell ya'll that OP's album by Swirlies (as well as their other classic, Blonder Tongue Audio Baton) is as good a shoegaze album as you're ever going to hear.
Swirlies were so fucking good, every bit as good as MBV in my humble opinion. I find their sound more varied. Tremendously inventive guitar playing.
Cheers OP.>>68216028
>>68222021
I've been playing guitar for a few years now. But I've been playing like rock/blues. I've also been producing like rap beats and stuff. But I really think I could become big off this sound
>>68222120
aesthetic
>>68222455
So when are you planning to make it big
>>68222120
Absolutely.
But as somebody who's a self-taught guitar player, I'd recommend learning chords before you dissect them. Shoegaze is entirely based on colourful chord inversions, so you defs wants to move fingers out of place and fuck with conventions, but it's pretty difficult to find success when your playing is mostly aimless.
>>68222701
within the next few months. I'll make a thread here when I blow up. Just need to work on an aesthetic and music of course lol

>>68224190

>>68216054

>>68224690

>>68224630
everyone uses pedals.
>>68224690
fuck aesthetics
>>68224599
If the band mentions mbv in an interview or have ever had a excessively blurry promo picture.
>>68224690
1) guitar music
with
2) obscured melodies
as a result of
3) excessive use of guitar effects
and
4) excessive use of tremolo
plus
5) soft, ethereal vocals drowned out by the guitars
and
6) apathetic/melancholic vibe
often in
7) minor key
>>68226584
you think I could make this with a DAW. like sampling guitars and shit? I don't really have to proper setup to record my guitar atm.
>>68218072
>the sweet trip guy doesn't even like vdc
I literally cannot comprehend this. It's so far above their other album that I just don't get it. How can he not like vdc more?
>>68226622
i wouldnt bother with guitar samples, personally i make some shoegazy stuff in my daw of choice by running synths through mad effects and lastly through and soft guitar amp module, maybe with more distortion or compression after
the real trick is getting it to sound comfy as audio in daws can be a lot fatter without the limitations of speaker cabs and recording losses and it often can sound really busy with a lot of tweaking and lots of time
its a hassle to learn but once you have a few tricks its not so bad senpai
>>68226878
I currently am using some synths but with dist and delay so it kinda sounds like a guitar but not exactly. another thing is there a shoe gaze drum style? so far I've just gone with simple drum patterns similar to Beach House.
>>68226878
without alot of tweaking and time*
>>68226681
huh wow didn't know that
>>68226955
for shoegazey drums id go for 80s synthy drum sounds ir just plain rock sounds
one very distinct drum pattern thing that always make me think of shoegaze is a rise ish snare pattern, you can hear it in the openings of mbvs only shallow, and its all over depreciation guilds stuff, you can hear it right at the beginning of dream about me
other that i think its mostly just rock beats with a decent amount of cymbals
>>68226955
also i really think that the soft guitar amp is really key here
>>68217163
no but cute chinese girls intrigue me
got a dl link man
>>68227107
Hmmm. Like a caged snare? Right I have this pretty simple pattern of just 2 and 4 for snares but I added a delay so it's kinda like a roll after it but it like fades. Kinda hard to explain.
>>68227137
is there a shoe gaze scale?
>>68227238
gated snares yeah but also the barebones snare fill itself
>>68227339
not exactly a scale, and most shoegaze is just effect driven twee pop played with dreamier jazz chords i play a lot of maj7, 2, and 4 chords
in addition to this, a lot of shoegaze guitarists playing open chords, meaning they play open strings with high fretted notes so you could experiment with chords spanning several octaves

A lot of the listenalongs had like only 1 or two people then.
I think we should just go for a week in december and have a long voting process up until then, and we'll probably have more listeners than last time.
Also we should probably ask before we cancel anyone's radio show if we do it on /mu/tant radio again.
>>68245941
Their sound doesn't really have much variety anyway, if you like one of their songs, you'll probably at least find the rest of them pleasant.
why do you guys like the album cover so much its not that great

>>68246916
Not the same guy, but Salons has their best guitar sound in my opinion. I would recommend Blonder Tongue Audio Baton next as previously suggested, but that album has a guitar sound that is more purely focused on tremolo and doesn't incorporate as many effects except on a couple of songs. Still a good album but it has a very different sound.
I've tried getting into shoegaze but outside of a few tracks I never really go back to anything

It's supposed to be a dreamier version of black metal with blurry shoegaze guitar effects, but I think a lot of bands get called blackgaze cause they're just too pussy and were disowned by autistic BM fans. it's also called "hipster metal bullshit" by those close-minded retards who only listen to pure black metal.
>>68253015
consistently pleasant is accurate. They've never blown me away yet I'm never bored when I listen to them.
Really enjoying this album.
Who's got the inside plug, anyone know what's happening with the boys in Whirr? Are they staying low key and working on new stuff? Are they completely dead and stopped working on LP3? Have they joined other bands?
shrill shrill shrill
>>68251365
Yeah this album is incredible
>Mfw Heaven transitions into Woman That Loves You
>>68257088
yer a crazy person
Been digging on Starflyer 59 lately, wanting to check out Duster but all the links I've found are dead. Can anybody help me please?
>>68260065
yes
>>68260163
you'll have to sacrifice a living soul to summon the anon who posts all the links.
>>68260314
Okay, I sacrifice the living soul of Gary Busey. He'll probably have captured another one by morning anyway
>>68260361
Your games are shit. Vice mistook you for a tranny. That's why they talked to you.
Is burzum darkgaze?
I've been listening to My Vitriol lately. They remind me a lot of Swervedriver, Chapterhouse, etc. Are there anymore bands that combine elements of alt rock with shoegaze?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-x9Ihjb7vE
>>68260951
Catherine Wheel, definitely, one of my favs.
I think Silversun Pickups are rock alt with shugazi elements but I've never listened to them.
>>68217163
>chinese album with white kids on the cover
>>68261256
Yeah why is that
>>68262229
my nicca
>>68257423
guys that Gloss band isn't a band anymore, can Whirr finally come out of their cave?
>>68262676
what if they were going to break up anyway and the gloss thing just made it look like sjws killed them
>>68263738
that's interesting, like a suicide by cop kind of thing.
>>68255984
Sunny Day in Glasgow
>guitar centered shoegays
>>68257116
Makes sense that moonlover is in the "suicide invoking" category because that's how fucking bad that shit album is
>>68263842
>drum centered shoegaze
Is such a thing even possible?
Damn when was the last time a /shugazi/ thread made it over 200 posts?
>>68264387
Today
For the past 2 years or so, I've been addicted to shugazi. I hope I'll still be for the rest of my life.
What was the album that got you into shoegazing, /shugazi/?
Pic related for me, didn't even know shoegaze was a thing when I first listened to it.
>>68262229
>>68262343
I really learned to like these guys. Sometimes it's great for a long drive
>>68264826
Me too anon, except i barely listen to shugazi in the summer, doesnt feel as good
.>>68266350 Hmm ndver Heard of that band.Hidden gem anon? I think my first shoegaze record was souvlaki, still like that álbum a lot after listening to quite some shoegaze. Think its easier for me to like a shoegaze álbum that falls more on the dream pop spectrum that on the noisier, harsher sound.
>>68267144
Bowery electric is so fcking good on latee night drives.
>>68266350
Whirr - Distressor
Then I went on to explore the classics.
>>68267533
>Hmm ndver Heard of that band.Hidden gem anon?
Found them by accident. Back in early 2000's I was into this internet show Pure Pwnage, they used music from a band called "Interstellar" sometimes. I liked their music so I dug deeper. The connection to Mean Red Spiders is that they share band members, I think.
It's really great if you ask me, a lot of their songs are more dream pop than straight shoezage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynhQnYTwFgs

Hey Anons,

is there anything of the vein of angry, lyrical, punkish shoegaze? Like Smashing Pumpkins, but more shoegazey. I've already heard LSD and the search for god

>>68274719
It's amazing. Not as good as Blondertongue or They Spent... but still essential IMO. Swirlies are too good

>>68279555

>>68218305
Deafheaven?
In a ridiculously short period my few friends moved away or disappeared.
I have no idea what's going on and I'm lonely beyond words.
Please rec albums that will help me evaporate into nothingness.
>>68279821
jesu
>>68228967
They are my biggest guilty pleasure of all time. Just really dig them.
>>68252463
Fucking Christ! What is so wrong with deaf heaven? Going to see them live in Asheville, along with carcus. What should I expect?
>>68279942
glad you asked
>>68260857
Haha burzum. A buddy told me that Varg is so racist that he won't even use guitars because it is an African instrument. That's why he only uses computers to make his music. Any truth to this?
>>68279611
The engineer they were working with suggested it hur kevin shields just said he didnt like it.
>>68280249
thanks
>>68280301
Well I think he stopped using guitars cause he doesnt like metal anymore. Although he has made a few video of him playing guitar on his youtube channel so that's probably not true
>>68278718
Acid
>>68280348
YouTube channel? I thought he was back in prison for burning down another church with his wife? Norway prisons are definitely diff than mine though.
>>68280540
No that didn't happen
Woah did we hit bump limit
>>68278718

great job everyone see you tomorrow or in the weekend.
