It's actually the opposite of what you think. She's a full coloratura soprano (afaik the only one active in the music business right now who isn't an opera singer) and her natural speaking voice is so high that she routinely pitches it down by relying on her growl register for interviews and regular conversation.
The one time that that way of speaking doesn't work is when you're out of breath - which is why you hear her speaking voice rising to its natural higher pitch range whenever she's speaking windedly between sets.

I've read all her interviews. The most specific she's ever gotten about it officially was to say that whatever transpired was "really fucked up". Pretty basic, Grimes tier. Nothing too special. They're all basically the same so I give them 6/10, except the Butterfly one I give it 6.5
