Grimes, who else?
>>68190541
Dj Shadow sampled Entroducing... by himself in a record store basement.
>uneducated nobody goes in a basement with 300$ in equipment
>comes out with one of the best albums of the century
bork is a good bit of the way, which is cool for someone as big as her desu
>>68190782

same with grimes
Aphex Twin
Kid Koala
Fatboy Slim
>>68190541
Mike Oldfield
>>68191170
Doesn't build his own synths and effects
Doesn't play any instruments
Music mostly comprised of samples
>>68191207
a sampler is an instrument
>>68191207
>Doesn't build his own synths and effects
(not true by the way)
>Doesn't play any instruments
(objectively false)
>Music mostly comprised of samples
(composed and constructed to produce new music)
What does it entail to master and produce a record?
>>68190782
doesn't say anywhere that his produced the demos
>>68191250
Mastered by Anup Paul.

>a sampler
Wow!
Mike Oldfield has played over forty distinct and different instruments on record, including:
a wide variety of electric and acoustic six-string guitars and bass guitars (plus electric sitar and guitar synthesizer)
other fretted instruments (banjo, mandolin, bouzouki, ukulele, Chapman Stick)
keyboards (piano, organ, assorted synthesizers, spinet),
electronic instruments (Fairlight CMI plus other digital samplers and sequencers; assorted drum programs, vocoder, software synthesizers)
wind instruments (flageolet, recorder, penny and bass whistles, Northumbrian bagpipes)
free-reed instruments (accordion, melodica)
string instruments (violin, harp, psaltery)
unpitched percussion (including bodhrán, African drums, timpani, rhythm sticks, tambourine, shaker, cabasa)
tuned percussion (tubular bells, glockenspiel, marimba, gong, sleigh bells, bell tree, Rototoms, Simmons electronic drums, triangle)
plucked idiophones (kalimba, jaw harp)
occasional found instruments (such as nutcrackers)

he uses a sampler just like fatboy
thxs for proving my point
>>68190541
None of these fit all the criteria, but they're all perfectionists:
Trent Reznor
Geoff Barrow
Kevin Shields
Billy Corgan
>>68191304
Impressed you are making retarded posts on here knowing absolutely fuck all about the artist you are trying to shit on.
>>68190862
grimes is an industry plant lol
highly doubt she does more than the basic song writing
This perfect human being
>>68191263
>mastering = producing
no
besides the leaks and demos weren't even mastered, listen to crush and tell me that's mastered
>>68191236
production is the arrangement and mixing of individual stems or mixing individual channels within a daw or external mixing console. You can tweak levels, panning and add effects to a single channel - for instance a vocal, adding reverb to give more depth. You have the most control at this level.
mastering is dealing with the record as one stem, on channel strip after being satisfied with the arrangment and timbre of the record. Mastering makes use of mostly dynamic processing for instance tweaking limiters as well as altering EQ to make the whole record balanced - good levels of bass and high ends. You are polishing essentially.

Sound Design by Anup Paul.
>>68191354
Keep your conspiracy theories to yourself. Grimes really does everything in her music by herself.
>>68191385
Is each instrument usually recorded separately?

>>68190541
>plays every instrument
>Flylo
>>68191199
STADNING !!1!
>>68191533
depends on how the producer wants the music to sound like
to produce a more live sound you can record a number of instruments at the same time (multitracking), they will all be close miked though so you still have control at the desk in case something doesn't quite work
>>68190541
>perfectionism
>playing all instruments
A real perfectionist would teach to a competent instrumentist how to exactly play his songs.
>>68190541
So you mean ''''musician'''' then.
Me.
I even program my own VSTs.
But you will never hear my music because humanity is not ready this yet.
>>68190541
>>68191577
>computers
>instruments
lol
>>68192503
Look at this filthy casual
>>68192503
i meant flylo is no way a perfectionist
i bet he's lazy fuck and probably bad at mixing that's why he brickwalls every beat he made
also he doesn't play all the instruments, cuz he always had thundercat
and recently many other musicians on "you're dead"
>>68190899
>uneducated
The ONLY correct answer is Todd Rundgren. He did literally everything on A Wizard, A True Star.
"electronic" artists like Aphex Twin and the like shouldn't really count.
