Why don't we have rockstars anymore?
>>
It evolved into hip-hop.
>>
we do

but now it just happens immediately after they die
>>
The concept was retarded to begin with and people noticed this. Also because rock isn't the big mainstream genre anymore. The people in rap haven't realized how retarded the concept is yet.
>>
liberals

>>68188290
Most rock stars were liberals, at least in the 90s. Sonic Youth definitely were.
>>
>>68188241
But we do, OP. Ever heard of this band called 21 Pilots? :^)

Feminism.

Because rock musicians can't afford to drive Rolls-Royces into swimming pools anymore
>>
Josh Homme is still alive, dude
>>
I think Kurt Cobain happened. He pointed out how ridiculous the culture of rock stardom was in such a blatant and obvious way, that there really is no coming back from it.
>>
>>68188595
im loving this meme
>>
there are multiple musicians that are on the front page of /mu/ every day. those are your rockstars.
>>
>>68188351
those are popstars.
>>
>>68191024

Rock stars are/were pop stars. There was never a rockstar who didn't make pop music.
>>
>>68188241

Rock music is no longer at the forefront of popular music culture. The reason we no longer have rock stars is that there are few people who are necessarily captivating within rock and have reconciled that within the mainstream.

You currently find that more in hip hop and other pop forms, but typically rock is going through a slump. Come back in a few years, and Im sure someone nihilistic will come around to seduce a new generation into a higher concept which emerged from their isolation or something.
>>
>>68191089
Because rock music takes too long to release shit. the time faggots like radiohead take yrs to release shit. drake or kanye already dropped an album and a mixtape is on the way.
hip hop keeps its fans entertained at all times
Rock musicians like to be assholes on some god complex that this generation wants nothing to do with
guys like mac demarco/carseat headrest are the right motto. if rock is gonna need to have if its gonna make a comeback

Keep your fans happy with good consistent music
>>
What about all the people listed under rock here. Thom Yorke, Nick Cave, Gira, Will Tornedo are just some of the rock stars we talk about on /mu/ daily

because digital distribution has given previously lesser known artists access to audiences; effectively fracturing the market into smaller, more specific segments
>>
I'm kind of glad rock has slipped behind on the mass culture production cycle.
'tis more authentic.
