There's a severe lack of DAW descriptions in the wiki. If you're good with your tool of choice, consider writing a paragraph about it.

Learn how you can be an astronought and make space jams.

Remember to use clyp.it to post your tracks/WIP : posting a clyp.it is just providing sound for a question, posting a soundcloud link is making self-advertisement and the thread doesn't need that.

Remember to check other peoples' clyp.it links to keep the thread healthy.

A friend and I want to combine our Synths/Drum Machines to play live.

His setup is Hardware only and sequences with a MPC, however I use ableton + hardware. I'm having a hard time figuring out the best routing option.

What I'm struggling with:
>should ableton be the master clock, or should the MPC
>should the audio be mixed via external mixer, or should we route everything back into ableton to mix on a LaunchControl XL

I'm leaning towards routing everything into my ableton session so we can multitrack record and dsp, however I don't know if the latency will impact our ability to jam.

any insight would be appreciated
>>

Ableton should me your master clock. External mixer would work better tho. I don't think there's that much latency desu senpai.

Am I getting the hang of this whole FL Studio ''''''sampling''''' thing????

Feedback would be appreciated since I don't really know what I'm doing. The frequencies sound too high in the final phase or something. I have no idea how to develop from here but I guess I'll keep finding pleasant sounds and lathering them on randomly until it sounds good

I really don't feel you need screens on hardware... def more of a freeform machine.

I think having video output/visualizer built in that responds to the sequence is totally revolutionary. Previously you'd have to spend a lot of time building an elaborate ableton session to send timecode to other software to produce visuals like that in a live setting... if you are performing live, adding this little thing to your setup will give you live visuals instantly.

normally wouldn't give SC feedback in /prod/ cause you should use clyp.it for that... but i've got breakbeat roots.

I really like the instrumentation. definitely a lot of potential. I thought the beat could have been a little more complex, and think the current 808 kick is a little bland. I think it should hit harder, maybe layer it up? also maybe come up with a thick bass line to fit in the pockets of the drums when they come in.

the fuck? soundcloud didnt even care about that shit until like late last year when they signed a deal to start deleting shit like youtube does.

one of the main reasons soundcloud got so big was because big name producers would post remixes and get millions of views. samples and remixes were never an issue until a few months ago. legally i could fight this if i had money and a lawyer, im not selling it, or making any money off of it, i even credited the samples and remixes, i didnt claim it as my own original work. im not breaking any copyright rules. its a robot algorithm that reads the songs and deletes that shit. the last song i posted got taken down in 3 seconds automatically, that shits a bot.

I was working on a project, got frustrated so I closed the program. A few minutes later I came back and tried opening it but every time I opened the project I'd get 'Live quit unexpectedly'. Tried it like 5 times to no avail so I had to open a different project, and THEN open the project. Strange

Learn about song structure, and learn about music theory, if you don't already know about them. Once you actually know how to write a song, and how to write music, it's quite easy in theory, to get your musician ship up to the same level as your production skills is the battle that most bedroom producers face these days.

the first section of the mix sounds far better than the latter and the cutout at 6minutes where it gets a bit minimal sounds nice, so is the progression of sounds as it fills out

also at 6.30 there was a sick tubed noise for one stab that sounds raw desu m8 but the rest of the mix is rly repetitive imo but i guess thats the genre

for 13 minutes do the drum samples really change? for 13 minutes of sound its very monotonous

in the second half of the song they do change but it's constant throughout pretty much I need to work on my kick drums tho to make it more interesting so you can listen to it for a long time and not get bored

I have two questions.

I'm looking for a 303-ish bass synth and since I don't have 800$ to spend, the only real option would be a Korg Volca Bass.
I already watched tons of videos and while it doesn't exactly sound like the original it has a pretty interesting sound.
Does anyone know if it's worth buying?

2nd question:
I want a quality midi drum pad.
there's a lot of drum pads that seem to be utterly trash and not usable in any way.
So I want something like the mpd's pads but I really only need one pad since all I'd be using it for is home production in a daw.
I don't know if something like this exists.
>>
>>61956380
Maybe get a soft synth? If you're talking production wise at least.
Get the Vestax PAD-One for the latter.
>>
>>61956425
I kind of want more hardware, I feel limited with all these virtual synths.
The Vestax looks neat!
I really don't think there is a device with just one small drum pad button.
So I might just go for that or something similar, thanks!

really like the fluent vibe of the synthies.
I think the arrangement is fine
I do however not really like the bass.
it feels thin, I'm not saying you need a big booming bass as this is obviously not that style of music but at times the notes feel too high and the overall structure just doesn't go well with the dreamy synths

I'd suggest you give the bass more depth, maybe use a different synth for it.
The kick is also not the greatest in my opinion.

other than that, nice stuff!

>>
>>61956380
It's totally worth buying. Ok it's not a great synth in comparison to other more featured and expensive synths but for £90 it's got a hell of a lot of features & a built in sequencer.
I have both the Volca sample and the bass and without a doubt they are the best value synths I've ever bought.
I guess you could also try getting a secondhand rackmounted novation bassstation for around the same price. I had one in the 90's and again it has a similar sound to a 303.
DESU I think that having a synth like the Volca bass that doesn't exactly sound like a 303 is quite a good thing, but I guess if you are after the real 303 sound get a 303 or a clone of. A mate of mine has a 303 and because he's had it so long he wouldn't even use a clone if his broke he'd be out to buy another one for £1000. I personally don't NEED the 303 sound so I'm happy with my £90 Volca bass

my budget is very limited right now, so a 303 is out of the question anyway.
thanks again!

Is there an easy way to work with samples in Ableton? I just recently bought it and working with sampler has been a bit clunky for me.

I used to make sample based music using Cool Edit, you could just load up all the audio files you wanted to sample from, cut out the samples you wanted, place them somewhere on the side and then freely place them on the tracks.

Is there something similar you can do in Ableton? It was very easy and straight forward to use, i'd assume a DAW like Ableton would have a similar function. But like i said i don't know the program very well so i could just be missing something

If all you need to do is sequence the samples (like drum hits almost) you could load instances of Simpler into a drum rack and assign one sample to each instance - you'd then have each sample responding to a single note in your part.

It sounds like you're in session view. check the top right of the screen and there should be 3 sideways lines. Click them and you're probaly good famm.

No thats not what i mean. I mean you can't just cut samples of different sizes from the same audio source, store them on the side and then freely place them on the track. Or at least i haven't found a way to do it freely like that.

I know about Arrangement View

Why not just slice to single sampler or duplicate the audio file in a session slot?
>>
>>61959012

If you load an audio file in a session view clip and crop it (set start and end points then right-click/crop sample), it'll become its own file that gets stored in the project folder, then drag and drop into a track as you need.

As an addition to this - this is why you always create and save to a new project BEFORE you do any work, the project that you create then becomes the container folder for all of your processed (cropped, reversed etc) samples for that project, so you can find them easily.

I'll tinker around with that when i get home

same question but for logic.

basically, whats the easiest way to start chopping samples for hip hop in logic?

Suppose I want something with decent pads, some onboard storage or an SD card slot and absolutely minimum hassle getting sounds on there from a windows PC (with FL). But it should be able to work independently.
What are my options?
Maschine? Anything else?

As an alternative, the Wavedrum does look fun af, but everything I've heard from it sounded modern and crystal clear. Can you get any grit out of it? Some 60s grooves, or vintage drum machine kinda stuff?

MPC1000?

Depends what you're using it for. I like using Reaper for tracking and editing guitars and live stuff, but for production I think FL blows it out of the water.

I liked that a lot man, but have you thought about adding any bass or kicks or did it just throw everything off?
>>

>implying people should buy an expensive product without knowing to what extent they can use it
Having used a few expensive VSTs and DAWs for the past year allowed me to get comfortable with what I could do with them and gained my trust. Now I'm saving up to buy them all. If the DRM was so good that I couldn't use those programs I'd never want to purchase them in the first place. gtfo faggot

Why do you want Kontakt 4 and not 5?

Okay, I didn't know there was a 5.

The volume wasn't what I was talking about.
Loudness, if anything.
But mainly it just feels too sharp, too much going on in the upper bass frequencies and too little in the lower ones.
>>

>my internet provider is a torrenting hound
how do you even figure this out
I'm used to just torrenting away but people around me are getting increasingly paranoid
feels like I'm getting old
>>

They sent my room mate an email telling them to stop torrenting immediately. This is AT&T btw

Why? Just curious. Reaper-user myself.
