Who is your favorite classical composer and why is it CPE Bach?
>>
Further proof that Mozart is underrated
>>
Why? Mozart exists. Beethoven exists.
>>
>>61790318
I exist.
>>
>>61790336
Then you're my favourite :)
>>
>>61790336
/mu/ exists
>>
>>61790318
Because CPE has a more varied style. His music was the perfect transition from the baroque to the classical era and his music has a lot of complex and varied emotions. Beethoven did too, but he's honestly overrated (I still like him though, especially his lesser known symphonies). Mozart isn't my jam either.
>>
>>61790283
Bach is good but I prefer Mozart for his masterpiece: Der Zauberflote. As far as non-operatic repertoire goes I would probably say Bach or Vivaldi though.
>>
>>61790596
Are you talking about JS Bach? Or CPE Bach?
>>
Where do I start with classical music?

>>
>>61790778
Okay, got it.
>>
>>61790431
>his lesser known symphonies
lol what?

there were only nine dude, and they're all very well-known
>>
>>61790929

Alright then.
>>
>>61790748
There are three different eras.
Baroque (characterized by its business and counterpoint):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcFHuUJE0mU
Classical (less busy and ornamented):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OitPLIowJ70
Romantic (more expressive):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBA-38mzabs
Post-romantic (just for fun):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Xm7s9eGxU

>>61791005
If it's not 5 or 9 (or 7), it's lesser known comparatively. But I also meant to say "piano sonatas or symphonies" so you got me there.
>>
>>61791073
Baroque always interested me back in music class. So I suppose I am going to explore that for a while.
>>
>>61791073
eroica is probably his best m8. it's when he finally establishes his work in the romantic style (1 and 2 hinted at it, but were firmly classical). he wrote it right after learning that he was going to eventually go deaf. he pulled out all the stops and fucking went for it and never looked back, it sets a precedence for literally everything he did after.

get learnt
>>
>>61790706
My mistake. I was referring to JS Bach. CPE Bach is good but outshine by his family member. Similar to Leopold Mozart and Clara Schumann.
>>
>>61790748
In all honesty, Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kije, Beethoven's 9th symphony, Mozart's Die Zauberflote, Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Sullivan's Mikado are all good places to start. They are shorter and present more varied melody types that are present in the /classical/ canon.
>>
>>61791192
I... agree with you? Why are you telling me to get learnt?
>>61791241
You know what's funny? At the time of the late baroque era, JS Bach was actually not as well regarded as CPE. People loved CPE much more but now JS is more well known and liked because people today think he is a better representation of the baroque era. We put more emphasis on him in our history books and that's why he's held in a higher regard.
>>
>>61791305
> Mozart's Die Zauberflote
>Vivaldi's Four Seasons
I am gonna check these out. Any specific recordings of them I should check out?
>>
>>61791385
For Mozart's Die Zauberflote I like the 2001 Colin Davis version. I also like the Swedish film version by Ingmar Bergman. For Vivaldi's Four Seasons I like the Concerto Italiano version. Clips of all are on YouTube.
>>
>>61791437
Very cool, thanks. I'll look them up.

Bach Beethoven Chopin Mozart Shoenberg Gorecki Stravinsky Vivaldi Bartok Satie + various modern stuff mostly minimalism

Classicalfuckers just mostly wank or repeat same shit through the whole "composition"

I like his daddy more. Daddy's more pure Baroque, but his songwriting chops are second to none. Not even a muh complexity thing just because Johann uses the complexity so well, adding tons of nuance to the music.

CPE is overrated shite.
I've heard his sonatas, his symphonies, his concertos, they're all really lackluster. There's a reason we perform Haydn and Mozart.
