Why are "experimental" albums so emotionless?
>>
You mean like Autechre and shit
>>
>>55624326
claim refuted by the example you chose. nice.
>>
Because most experimental albums fall under the category of post-modern, and one of the results of post-modernism is an increasingly ironic and nihilistic narrative. This narrative prevents experimental albums from expressing emotion because the artist who made the albums see it as vain.

Contrast that with the rise of new sincerity artist who base their sound on their sincerity. Alas, because new sincerity is a reaction to pomo, it also, more often than not, loses its experimentation and instead focuses on conveying a genuine sense of the human condition.
>>
because you don't get them
>>
>>55624339
There's no way Incunabula is emotionless.
>>
Because you are not ready yet.
TMR is one of the few (4) albums that has more than five emotional peaks for me (that means, crying and/or mind blowing moments).

>>55624339
Tri Repetae is pretty emotional.

But I love the instrumentation of the album, it's just that I can't develop an emotional connection to it.
>>
>>55624688
what are the other 4?

Lots of ambient drone albums are really emotional. This one especially for me.

That's a Beatles song and that can be very emotional.

>>55624719
The emotion isn't always on the melody (a lot of the time it is though, like Sweet Bulbs).

>>55624734
Cardiacs - Sing to God (like 10 times)
The Books - The Lemon of Pink (like 8)
Tipographica - God Says I Can't Dance (like 6)
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica (6)

>>55624769
No, thanks. Even if said yes, I wouldn't like to listen to that song recently, since I just listened to another "11/10" song (Indiscipline by King Crimson).
>>
>>55624688
i will lick your tears and use the saliva/tear mixture as lube to masturbate while thinking about Captain Beefheart raw dogging your asshole

those spoken word tracks are more emotional than 99% of inexperimental music

Is Xiu Xiu considered experimental?

If so they're extremely emotional.

Anyone who says experimental music can't be emotional is just narrow minded.

They shouldn't be.

you know nothing about experimental music

>>
>>55624326
could you have picked a worse example?
>>
an idea I've been toying with for a few years (but only in a semi-articulate way recently) is music as a functioning emotional "mirror" rather than the traditional sense as an emotional "window" into the soul/mind of the artist i.e. an object so far removed from its own creation/creator as to have meaning only in its consumption/consumer

the farther this idea develops the more the music becomes a sort of magnifying glass for our own thoughts, feelings, desires, etc and where there was once a fixed mirror there becomes a more aqueous, reflective surface- sort of like liquid mercury in the ability to distort and manipulate the inner experience

of course if we continue down this path we come full circle in that the music becomes so refined as to distort the inner experience down a precise path, where it becomes indistinguishable from where we started with a pure expression from the artist

I know there's a name for this line of thinking but I don't know the particulars, but that's not really the point

the point is that most "experimental" (and I mean things you would consider "out-there" and not just your average pop-rock with zany effects) works which I enjoy evoke these thoughts

i.e. to find experimental musics "emotionless" is more an admission of shallow character than any kind of respectable criticism
>>
>>55624908
They're a british rock band. I think you'd maybe find them moving.

what the fuck are you talking about. did you even listen to the album you posted
>>
>>55625043
As I see it, Experimental Music (or Arts in general), is just a way of displaying creativity, as simple as that (and that's something I appreciate, even if I don't get emotionally attached to it).
>>
>>55625043
i.e. the interpreter and the maker are both responsible for the art
>>
>>55625104

Only listened to Flood 1. Very cool first listen, second listens not so much.
>Death Grips
They have some awesome tracks (Spread Eagle, Lord of The Game), and I really appreciate their innovation. Haven't heard anything past TMS though.

>Primus
Only heard a few tracks, but other than My Name Is Mud, I don't like them (I don't dislike them though).

>Sigh
Haven't heard them yet.

Define what you mean as emotional? Because so many experimental bands have emotion (example: Swans)
>>
>>55625183
you didnt ask for my opinion but ill throw it at you anyways, because suck my dick. mine and avants tastes have a bit of an overlap at least
their drone metal is aimless wank but pleasant, their buttrock is shallow but pleasant. i like the way new album incorporates electronic effects, and rock dream is basically what ive always wanted the term "noise rock" to describe even if merzy coulda put in more work
mc rides performances never not feel forced, their seamless blends of rock and rap ideas, the aesthetic of "digital rawness", and also viral marketing techniques and their image are relatively interesting though
listened to one song, all i can say about them for now is that theyre silly. too much for me
boring, bog-standard celtic frost &co worship spiced up with zaniness and simulcrae
>>
>>55625277

>Death Grips
>Haven't heard anything past TMS though.
their new shit hasnt failed to entertain, either
>>
>>55625431
>wank
>buttrock
do you know what these things mean?
>>
>>55625150
creativity is just a means to an expressive end, though. no more impressive than a virtuoso displaying pure technical proficiency

>>55625157
in a way, yeah, although this challenges traditional views on authorship by placing the artist in charge of making a "container" and the audience in charge of filling it, calling into question who is doing more for the art piece
im pretty sure la monte young wrote a bunch of compositions that dealt with this in light/spite of john cage's impact upon the american avant-garde
