Miles Davis- Miles Ahead (1957)

>big band, cool jazz, third stream
>Though Miles' name gets top billing, this project owes much of its success to the brilliance of Gil Evans' arranging. The program consists of mostly popular jazz compositions, arranged by Evans for large ensemble and featuring Miles Davis' warm tone on flugelhorn.

>This is a live recording from the new “Live at Smoke” series recorded at Smoke Jazz Club in NYC. Evans is one of the most unique and inventive pianists around and this release captures him with a fantastic band playing a number of Evans’ interesting original tunes, as well as several re-imagined standards. There is also a racially themed poem recitation which is accompanied by the band.

Later in the 70’s he also recorded several albums as a leader on the Muse label. This record consists of two 20+ minute jams by the quintet over several bebop standards, that move well beyond the realm of bebop during the solos.

There are several styles represented here—mambo, guajira, pachanga, and cha cha cha—it’s an early example of the music that would introduce the salsa craze of the 70’s.

Lloyd McNeill & Marshall Hawkins - Tanner suite
http://www20.zippyshare.com/v/L33Ygom3/file.html

Lloyd McNeill is an american jazz flutist that never reached the recognition he deserves because of his independance wish, which led him to create the two record labels on which were issued in small quantity his six albums. as far as I'm concerned, he definitely stands among the top players of this instrument, along with herbie Mann, Yusef Lateef, James Moody or Bobby Jaspar. he's also been a painter (some of the cover arts for his albums are by him), a professor in university, a sculptor...
on this album, recorded in a museum in 1969, he teams up with bassist Marshall Hawkins (who worked a bit with Miles Davis) for four wonderful flute / bass duets freely developing the interplay

on this 1994 record, the french pianist plays with a dream rhythm section composed of Dave Holland on bass and Tony Williams on drums, and this trio is increased by a string quartet. Petrucciani stated that on this record, he wanted to melt the raw sourness of jazz with the fragile sweetness of the string quartet, bringing the two together in oder to make a new flavour. he album was recorded after his Blue note period, and showcases Petrucciani's unique style interplaying in an excellent way with his partners

Pierre Michelot - Bass and bosses
http://www17.zippyshare.com/v/gJG8fxN0/file.html

from 1989. bass player Pierre Michelot leads here an unusual quintet with Toots Thielemans on harmonica, Pierre Blanchard on violin, Maurice Vander on piano and Billy Higgins on drums. this rather unusual instrumentation allows them to take a refreshing new look on some standards, the harmonica giving the whole session a strong blues feeling

Lennie Tristano - Live at Confucius restaurant
http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/Q9uT4cJu/file.html
http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/FjUaCUTX/file.html

recorded in 1955 in the maybe more intimate atmosphere than in a club that belongs to a restaurant, this set presents two hours of pure cool and bop Tristano, backed up by an all star gang : the unmovable Lee Konitz on alto sax, Gene Ramey on bass and Art Taylor on drums

Woody Shaw - Blackstone legacy
http://www39.zippyshare.com/v/hdfZtOUK/file.html

for his first release as a leader, in 1970, Woody Shaw gave birth to one landmark double LP. as it has been said already, this record is incredibly advanced for a first release, using with such ease the post bop idiom that was developing at the time it looks like it has been made by one fully matured jazzman instead of a 26 years old. this album features, besides Shaw on trumpet, Ron Carter on bass, Clint Houston on electric bass, Bennie Maupin on tenor sax, bass clarinet and flute, Lenny White on drums, Georges Cables on keyboards and Gary Bartz on alto and soprano sax

This, I'm so fucking tired of this contemporary jazz hardcore post bop shit.

We shouldn't need to have multiple share threads for different genres.
