I posted the Lift Yr. Skinny Fists picture. When I was getting into God's-pee I was into F#A# a lot and preferred it to Skinny fists, but a few years later I find Skinny fists much more re-listenable, full of interesting motifs and of greater value artistically. F#A# is amazing record mainly because of the atmosphere but Skinny fists take me on a spiritual journey - and the ending is incredibly cathartic, as you said. It's like F#A# is about the apocalypse in the material world and Skinny Fists about the spiritual dimension of that event, if you know what I mean.

Not him, but Parallax II reeked of Colors, and not in a good way. Not that it wouldn't be good independently, which it would have, but they released Colors prior, which is probably the best prog metal effort in recent memory. I will say in advance I don't really care for Devin Townsend's solo efforts; I think they're a bit pretentious. Strapping Young Lad had some good tracks though.

Hard for me to describe. Struck me hard at the right time, I guess. I'm moved heavily by instrumental music that conveys emotion, or at least tangible meaning, and MHTRTC does that for me. I wasn't aware of why I loved it so much at the beginning, but over the years I've tried to rectify that sort of nebulous appreciation in my mind and that's kind of how I rationalize it. While being very expressive, it's very impersonal (don't want to say inhuman, because that's not true). I identify with expressive, yet impersonal stuff on a lot of levels, though I dabble in everything.

if you are looking at it from a musician's standpoint, sure parallax is more impressive, but theres nothing behind it. BTBAM is getting increasingly more shallow. I think the genre-bending in colors was the start to that.

Colors was too good in that regard. The fusion was pretty seamless, and simply existing it implied the idea of possible continuation. The one after was shit, only had Swim to the Moon (which was quite good tho, honestly) and Parallax II seemed like grasping for a life preserver

Definitely not perfect, but my favorite album of 2013, and that's saying something. Never seen anybody else on /mu/ talk about this album. "PV" gives me chills every time.
