Actually taking a trip with a few dudes on Friday to see Anthony Braxton play some free shows and visit Sun Ra's grave.

take pics

it depends, there are so much very different ones... maybe pic related
My favourites are top 3:
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Bobby Hutcherson - Dialogue
Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
>>53693577
The one with the nignogs and the saxamaphones
Pharaoh Sanders - Elevation
pic related and
thelonius monk - monks dream
I know it's not very original, but it always puts me in a good mood

Gr8 choice. Speak no Evil was my fave of last year.
Tough choice. Tatum always gets me going + this is strong the whole way through (I have the cute 10" LP) so I picked it. Also considered Paul Quinichette, Art Pepper, and Hancock's Maiden Voyage.

I could never really get into Mingus.

I like these too.
What's the heaviest, most energetic and loudest (while not being the most dissonant) jazz album you know? excluding free and avant garde jazz
>>53697755
Mingus the Dingus at Antibes
>>53697755
Moanin' is pretty heavy as well, if you like big drums.

Cheers guys
btw, >>53697880, I love big drums. I'm specifically looking for great drumming, but I'd also like the whole band to go with it to give it that "holy shit, woah" feel to it

Africa/Brass
Do I just not get Brilliant Corners?
Even after I've been digging more into jazz, it still sounds so messy to me. Is there something else to it or is that just how it sounds?
>>53697929
In that case, definitely check out Moanin'. Also Tony Williams "Emergency" and maybe some Gene Krupa if you're down for older (pre bop) jazz.
You can't beat a double quartet
One of these two. I always switch back and forth between which one is my top favorite. Right now it's The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady.
