I dont listen to a ton of dub, but I think the drums need to be punchier. Drop some sustain to accentuate the attack and raise the level. Use more delay, less reverb, and add a strong bass line and I think it'd have a more "dub" type vibe

I've read on other /prod/ threads some of you guys do music/sound design for video games. If any of you are still lurking around these threads, how did you get into it? What did you have to learn? Any advice for someone looking to get into it? Thanks in advance, if I don't get back to you.
This shit is really neat. Be careful with whatever you're doing in the mixing stage though because the sound quality is noticeably bad. Maybe check your gain stages. But still this is something that could definitely benefit from high compression.
the problem with the eq comes from trying to preserve the noise. You cant fix the quality without taking out some of the grimier elements. or can you? any tips on this?

I have a mate who does game soundtracks, just get involved in gamedev sites and get to know guys making the games, they're out there somewhere needing music, and if you can show them you're capable of high quality music, I'm sure they'll be interested in working with you.

Schoenberg's Theory of Harmony, and Fundamentals of Musical Construction.
with those two you can pretty much do everything. They're kind of old fashioned but very solid. Payne's Tonal Harmony is a more modern one.
as for orchestration, can't go wrong with Adler's Study of Orchestration and the accompanying CDs, it runs you through what the orchestra is capable of and how the character of the different instruments change at certain registers or in various special effects. Also shows you a lot about chord spacing and texture, and foreground, middleground, background kind of thinking.
What the symphony is is open for debate these days, so there don't seem to be any limits, save for a large scale work for orchestra.
Making a mix in Ableton at the moment, just wondering does this combination of Inside the Deku Tree and Chica Chic work? I like it and I think Deku is doing a good job of covering up the dark vibe of Chica
