What are you listening to tonight?
i feel like every track on this has something interesting going on, it's probably my aoty from 2013. anagramme of my love is an awesome track.
listening to this
shouldnt be as good as it is but its pretty much one of the best things of 2013
meh, pretty disappointing imo.
i get that. it's not the grooviest shit around but i dig the textures the experimentation produced. did you check out his new EP?
lmao there's nothing to "get" about this music. classic /mu/ criticism. it's not like we're music theorists or anything here.
yeah definitely. he gets down and dubby but puts his own spin on it. huerco s. is pretty versatile i think.
i produce bleep shit. clearly most of this album is fuckery with samplers, which is constructed through trial and error to make something cool sounding. music theory is just made up after the fact to describe what successful composers have done anyway. there's nothing to "get"; you can talk about music's qualities, why you like it or dislike it, but there's nothing to "get" on an objective level like knowing how to take the derivative of a function or some shit like that.
There is "nothing" to get because music is art, and art is just a pleasure, it has no function but to be liked or disliked. Using the "you don't get it" in this case is fallacious.
is he still playing dark souls
where the music he promised
>art has no function but to be liked or disliked
i dont care about this argument but what? that's not true at all. what about conceptual art? or political art?
Listen namefag, I'm not going down the rabbit hole of discussing what's "art" because there are hundreds of books on the subject and none of them have the "true" answer. I'm on this thread while producing beats on Ableton (I'm posting while Ableton is consolidating or exporting), and I don't feel like writing 3 posts and then having to wait 10 min for your response.
Read the intro of "The Picture of Dorian Gray". That's a good start
Sort of on a Somatic Responses kick, listening to their EPs and singles at the moment.
is there less to get in a bleep album than another album?
wasn't this heurco s album all about native americans or some shit anyway? go work out how over using a compressor links to the way native americans are treated or something, i dont know
>go work out how over using a compressor links to the way native americans are treated or something, i dont know
wow what great and concise argument, thanks for enlightening me!
So you cannot even explain what's to "get" yet even tho you claim it exists and that I should "get it" because no one will "spoon feed" me?
>eat shit and die slowly
As long as you keep talking out of your ass, there will be plenty of shit to go around
Those piano riffs murder me every time.
it has to have 8 different drumlines to be good
Saw these guys in Brooklyn live, breddy gud moosik
lol ok mate
you've read kant, great. he's really applicable to modern day electronic music. why are you so far in the past?
what kind of retarded institution lets you lecture grad students, lol
america is doomed, lmfao
finishing up listening to pic related and then i'm gonna try to go to sleep.
kind of a lame album btw
this track was kind of good but overall i thought the album lacked the funkiness and grittiness that makes chicago house fun to listen to.
good night /bleep/, i love you even though you can be shitty sometimes :-)
I guarantee you wont hear a better piano riff in a house song from 2014.
skip to 1:45 if you want to go straight to the riff
Yeah they are pretty cool. That track they had on the Field Records samplers is pretty cool. So is the Abdulla Rashim remix of Black Sun. When I was in Berghain I heard Boris play the Last Vehicle interlude and it went off.
Check out the rest of the stuff on Dement3d, its all killer. Fuck the prices on discogs though.
yeah i stumbled upon it on discogs randomly on the offer of a seller i sometimes buy from. dont know why looking for other offers didn't occur to me.
i will be spinning these two and drinka shit ton of jameson.
yeah well his set was 2 1/2 hours, for the first 2 thirds of it he played basically disco and funk the whole way through. the last third he ventured into house and bouncy techno, with tunes like KHLHI by four tet and that ARP3 dub
the only reggae i caught was on the beach on the monday tuesday and wednesday leading up to the festival, but that was on point because it was basically dub smugglers and mungo's playing on the dub smugglers soundsystem (sick system).
the sound throughout the festival was better than last year, honestly in the moat this year was the best soundsystem i've ever heard, at least for the dubstep and dnb that was being played for the most part in there (contact, dispatch)
Feeling a little edgy tonight.
also sven väth was there lol (just to dance)
it was a very sad display however. towards the end he was a drooling sack of shit, bothering young girls left and right. should have got it on camera
Fuck that sounds amazing. I really love soundsystem culture, I wish there was more of it where I was from. There's nothing like hearing a super heavy dub on a system purpose built for it, I love how it's a physical thing when the vibrations hit you. There's something primal about it.
there's something about that moat system
i saw truth (dubstep trio) in the moat on thursday, and they dropped fucking eastern jam by chase and status a.k.a the baitest dubstep tune outside of flux pavilion - bass cannon
and yet, somehow, it was AMAZING. the track hit you like a fucking train, it was ridiculous on that system. pretty sure it got a reload lol
oh mate eastern jam is completely acceptable to like its too much
truth do dabble heavily in bait though dont really get why mala rates them so highly
what were the highlights of outlook?
highlights were probably truth (poison dart and eyez were just mayhem), youngsta, kahn, floating points, moodymann, mumdance b2b logos and the bug. DMZ were expected to be my favourites but coki decided that dropping a load of it's-just-noise level dubstep tunes would be a good idea
The sound at outlook/dimensions is basically the thing that they are most on-point about every year. There's a rumour floating around that the harbour soundsystem cost £1 million
ishkur's guide to dance music is what you're after
but, it is VERY outdated, it doesn't cover anything after 2000. the latest thing it covers is 2step garage. after that, nothing. plus, it's really biased. he basically discards some genres altogether and rants on about how amazing some other genres are
>boiler room set is live pa
l m a o dropped
>seriously using word 'pleb'
so ebin :^>
how to be a female producer/DJ
>be above mediocre as a producer/Dj
I bet if they all dropped the "look at me im a gurl" thing, adopted a pseudonym and released under a male alias, no one would give a shit about their subpar bleeps
Except Laurel Halo. She's OK
>the "look at me im a gurl" thing
i'm pretty sure this is more of a perceptual bias created by your virginity than an actual phenomenon
pretty good, never really got into her (or any other UK bass stuff) that much though tbh
these 3 are good, holly as well
julia of course but she isn't /bleep/ related
>your virginity than an actual phenomenon
I'm not a virgin, and my favourite artist is Bjork. If you can tell me with a straight face that in the bleeps scene women are incredibly underrepresented (and the ones who are 'popular' are shitty and bland, but wow, they happen to be attractive, what a coincidence) you're a lying sack of shit
Surgeon looked really qt during his boiler room set.
started as a great idea that turned into another exclusivity club for egotistical cunts
right, i agree with that. i mean, i don't know what girl producers make stuff that's that much more bland than their peers. like xosar's EP on lies is basically average for that label, for example.
it's just pretty neckbeard of you to imply that she is a hack just because she's attractive enough for nerds on an imageboard to be waifuing though and suggest that these girls release under a male alias.
>I bet if they all dropped the "look at me im a gurl" thing, adopted a pseudonym and released under a male alias, no one would give a shit about their subpar bleeps
>Except Laurel Halo. She's OK
>inga copeland is alright too
>What does /bleep/ think of Ikonika?
>these 3 are good, holly as well
This is starting to sound a bit like "What have the Romans ever done for us?"
Some cool sets though. But yeah I agree with you on the muh exclusivity part.
Does anyone have any recommendations for ragga jungle like what Congo Natty does? He's the only artist I know of that plays that style of jungle.
The pretentious assholes here are gonna tell you it's "not bleep m8" but goa is the shit. What do you listen to? I'm still immersing myself into the genre but Mystical Experiences by the Infinity Project is great shit.
>3 examples defeat the norm
There's a few more in the thread. I couldn't give a shit if females are under-represented, it's just swap out 'producer' and it could be /v/tards bitching about girl gamers.
anyone hyped for syro, lads?
Tune in in less than 2 hours. It's 909 day after all. Quality techno for 2 hours.
I head that minipops song and I can't say I'm excited m8. Sounds like more of the same from Aphex Twin- cluttered beats over an airy melody. He's been doing this for over 20 years now. I mean, I'm sure it'll be well made (and it better be considering all the equipment he has) but nothing to get excited about.
ah cool, thanks will check.
seems like records come in loads of different types of generic sleeves but trying to buy your own with that level of choice seems hard. the gene hunt lacr comes in a nice thinck faded black generic jacket, looks so nice. want for all my records tbh. fuck hessle's shitty quality fingerprint paper sleeves
>fuck hessle's shitty quality fingerprint paper sleeves
lol theyre just standard sleeves man. who cares if they get fingerprints on them, those records are made primarily for DJ use, not home listening and pristine preservation. why else do you think there's minimal artwork and generic sleeves with labels like hessle? besides those sleeves are so generic that you can replace them so easily
i dont like fingerprints tbh man, i care about that shit
i know they're for dj use primarily, but it doesn't mean they don't look shit in comparison to the more nicely packaged records :)
will anyone be able to hear any new aphex twin and not ruthlessly compare it to the last three decades of bleeps
let your 6 year old cousin listen to it and see if he finds it groundbreaking
Can you guys give me your opinion on some stuff I just dropped?
Does anyone else get a french house tip for a few days every couple months? This has always been my favorite track, along with Together and So Much Love To Give.
Not my main diet for sure, but every now and again its nice.
a VIP is where the original track is tweaked like a refix, except it's nearly always done by the same person who made the track. a remix is a much more drastic affair, remixes often don't even sound that much like the original apart from maybe the same sound effects, samples etc.
can anyone rec me more jungle in the vein of sullys blue ep? already know of photek. omni-trio, source direct.
Guys, does anyone maybe have a link for this?
