I've become a huge AAIMON fanboy these days. Plenty of witch house influence but so much more than just that.
Here's a pretty cool industrial artist I found on soundcloud. I really like his vibe.

Music essentials:
>Goth: Christian Death, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Joy Division
>Darkwave: Clan of Xymox, The Last Dance, Bella Morte, ThouShaltNot, Ego Likeness, Cold Cave
>Industrial Rock: KMFDM, NIN
>EBM: Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Covenant
>Witch House: AAIMON, Salem
Clothing
>Hair: Dyed black or an unnatural color
>Jacket: Black leather jacket, black trenchcoat, or band hoodie of a well-known goth or industrial band
>Top: black band shirt or black button-up shirt
>Pants: Black jeans or other black pants, some people who dress goth really like to mix it up with bondage pants, leather pants, Beetlejuice-esque pinstriped slacks etc.
>Shoes: Black leather boots (typically lace-up) or black converse sneakers
>Other accessories: fishnet gloves, piercings, jewelry or neckties featuring "gothic" imagery
There are a bunch of variations on the style, including some (like "Corporate goth") which are actually modified to look socially acceptable but still identifiable as goth. /fa/ and 4chan in general thinks of goth style as /cringe/core, fedoracore, manchild etc. but fuck their opinions
>>48392726
I quite like Emilie Autumn. Right up there with The Birthday Massacre and One-Eyed Doll as one of my favorite over-the-top mallgoth artists.

maybe less so if you're a music elitist who thinks of anything danceable or over the top as "entry level" or "pleb"
any love for Ego Likeness here?
Gonna go see their guitarist's experimental-ambient side project Stoneburner live in a couple months

I can give you plenty of darkwave/synth-goth recommendations, but most of them won't be similar to Xymox...
How goth do you have to dress to be considered goth? Like, do you have to have black eyeliner and leather everything, or can you just wear dark jeans, a dark green military-esque jacket, and have some chains and accessories?
>>48393003
There are no night clubs in my area, especially nothing goth.
Also, yeah, danceable music is plebeian as fuq,
>>48393128

>>48393248

>>48393274

Writ on Water - A Wingless King
I heard these guys on some college radio in Germany. I got their album on iTunes as I couldn't find it anywhere else. They're like a mix between goth and shoegaze, with some pop thrown in there. Here a tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFfU98uCQm8
If anyone is interested in the album I might still have it somewhere and I can upload it.

1. Lock the target
I always wondered how goths see people from other "dark" subcultures/fans of a certain musical genre.
For example, what are your views on Noise, Dark Ambient, Neoclassical Darkwave and Black Metal?
saw this band play the other night.

So, what does /darkshit/ think is the worst gothic subtype. I'd probably have to say cybergoths, EBM is shit and they look like idiots.
what is some good coldwave or shit similiar to Asylum Party, Coldreams, and 17 seconds era of The Cure.
>>48396197
>EBM is shit
Gonna disagree with you on this one, unless you're talking about stuff "hellektro" stuff like Suicide Commando and Noisuf-X. If you're talking about VNV Nation and Assemblage 23, that's actually decent synthpop/futurepop stuff imo.
I remember one of my best friends in high school dressed cybergoth a lot. He used to wear orange or blue camo pants every day and wore goggles on his forehead. It's an interesting style but one of the harder appearances to pull off.
>>48396197
>the worst gothic subtype
Neo-folk and Noise fans with a hard-on for Nazi/Fascist imagery, especially the ones who also buy into the ideology. Typically not goths thankfully though you do sometimes see some overlap.
I used to say emo/goth hybrids are a close second because I was on the "emo sucks" bandwagon but recently I've actually come to like that blend of styles and subcultures.
Do you guys like blvck ceiling? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONjesT18bVQ
>>48393711
>Noise, Dark Ambient, Neoclassical Darkwave
A lot of that falls under the /darkshit/ umbrella. Like for example if you're talking about neoclassical darkwave like Saltillo.
Black Metal is kind of its own thing. It's not my favorite genre but I don't hate it. It is a touch more in-your-face and edgier than /gothshit/ or /darkshit/ in some of its themes, which could be seen as obnoxious, but the music itself isn't bad.

>pronounced edginess
I feel like 3Teeth are a little tongue-in-cheek and self-conscious about their "edgy" lyrics and image. Maybe not quite to the extent of KMFDM-style self-parody but that attitude is still present.
Thank my lucky stars this is becoming a thing on /mu/ now! Second goth thread I've seen this week.
>>48397522
The "dark" genres are neglected a good bit by /mu/, probably because a. Those genres don't usually get a write-up in Pitchfork or similar with a couple of exceptions and 2. Those genres are auto-dismissed as "edgy teen/mallgoth shit" (not gonna lie, though, I quite like mallgoth) or not-to-be-taken-seriously by the music elitists that /mu/tants often fancy themselves

>>48403043
>if they're not fat or ugly
I'm not one for body-shaming so things like that don't typically bother me
I do have a lot of friends in the gothic scene, having been a regular at darkwave/industrial shows and clubs once upon a time, but I find that the gothic charm school style of dialogue and attitude is a bit rare even amongst that crowd
Has there been any good witch house in 2014?
>>48403273
...good? I thought witch house was an ironic meme genre like vaporwave. Are there actually good albums?
>>48403443
Witch House is a name ascribed to a genre of music that emerged from a blend of different influences in the late 00s/early 10s.
/mu/ only treated it ironically because /mu/core hipsters don't want to confess to liking a genre that isn't Pitchfork-approved or /mu/-approved "unironically." They treated it as a joke for a while because they thought it was too over the top to be taken seriously. After they got bored with it it found a serious and very unironic place in the hearts and minds of goths and fans of gothy/dark genres.
>>48403443
There are good albums from both of those genres actually. What have you been listening to?
>>48403443
ignorance is bliss
>>48403443

Speaking of Burzum, did you know that apparently The Cure and Dead Can Dance are two of Varg's favorite bands? I wouldn't be surprised if gothic music was actually a pretty big influence on BM, despite how different they sound and how much BM fans would probably want to deny it.
>>48405506
The Celtic Frost frontman is a self-proclaimed fan of bands like Christian Death, Bauhaus or Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Monumentum has ties with the extreme metal scene but their music sounded like a hybrid of ethereal, Dead Can Dance-esque neoclassical/world fusion and doom metal.
Bands like Moonspell or Theatres des Vampires have tried (and succeeded IMO) to mix gothic rock with black metal.
God I love this style of gothic rock.
