Françoise is my favorite singer of all time OP, glad you're fond of her
Going on from that my favorite lyricist - Jacques Brél - technically Belgian, but essentially French, and his music is in French anyway. Even if you don't understand French, he's a wonderful and passionate singer
I hope you're already familiar with Serge Gainsbourg, he's another favorite - Histoire de Melody Nelson is fantastic, but some less acclaimed albums like Initials BB are still worth listening to
Jacques Dutronc, Françoise husband, has some good material as well, check out "Il est Cinq Heures, Paris s'éveill
If you're most fond of Françoise's early work, it's worth checking out some of her Yé-Yé contemporaries - I don't like them anywhere near as much as Françoise, but France Gall, Chantal Goya and Sylvie Vartan have all put out some nice songs
Someone mentioned Stereolab - who I love, and are definitely worth checking out - who've put out a record with Brigitte Fontaine, another great french singer. Fontaine has worked with a lot of people, most notably Arkesi Belkacem and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Her album with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Comme à la Radio is one of my favorites, definitely give it a listen (It's more jazz fusion/vocal jazz/experimental jazz than either pop or rock, but an amazing record)
If you like the more folk oriented-side of her work with Areski Belkacem, perhaps try Catherine Ribeiro's work with her husband Patrice Moullet, either with 2 Bis or Alpes
Should give you a good jumping off point, there's a ton of great french music, and if you haven't already, listen to more of Françoise's discography, everything from 1962 to 1975 is worth hearing

Mon Amie La Rose

>>
as soon as you will understand french, you're going to throw away La Femme, Françoise Hardy and all this shit writers

stick to people who actually knew how to write lyrics, like Bashung, Thiéfaine, Vian, Ribeiro, Fontaine, Ferré, the list goes on
>>
>>47695241
But I don't listen to music for the lyrics.

>>47695241
Yeah, I should have mentioned Bashung and Ferré
Thiéfaine as in Hubert Félix Thiéfaine?
Not familiar with any of his work, what would you recommend
That said, I think Hardy's lyrics, despite being somewhat simplistic, are actually quite emotive and beautiful in their own way, and definitely compliment the music
>>
>>47695248
well why did you asked for pop or rock ? (I assume no one, especially when it comes to pop, listens to them only for the music)
if you want instrumental stuff you should look on the french classical or prog side
>>
>>47695179
thanks.
i actually have four of her albums, but only one of those.
tous les garcons is really great
>>
>>47694463
Stereolab are from the UK bro. Still amazing though.
>>
Check out Orties and Nouvelle Vague

yes I was talking about Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine. all his albums from the first one to Eros über Alles are quite good. to get a good mix of them before going to the solo albums I'd say listen to En concert (there are two volumes)
>>
>>47695179
My favourite of hers was always La Question

I do like the more-MOR (hehe) oriented Françoise records of the early 70s before she started making more baroque pop-esque stuff, but to me her earlier works will always resonate more with me, maybe more for sentimental reasons

indeed I forgot them, while they made some excellent albums
also after the track L'Europe and his Detroit album, I'm convinced Bertrand Cantat would be an excellent drone music maker
