Why aren't there as many retrospective v/a compilations of hip-hop as there are of other genres? Nuggets came out less than half a decade after the hippy movement, the Anthology of Folk Music came out only twenty years after some of those songs were recorded, yet there still isn't really an equivalent in hip-hop. I know there are v/a compilations like Wild Style and Down South Hustlers but those were of their time and not comprehensive. Does hip-hop just not care about its history as much as other genres do?

nuggets and the anthology are nice because it saved you the consumer the hassle of hunting down all the singles that made up each compilation. it'd be cool if there was something that cobbled together all the really early hip hop singles and recordings. imo later hip hop grew too large to make for a comprehensive yet manageable retrospective

I mean even nuggets and the Anthology of American folk music still aren't that comprehensive yet they came out. Same with a lot of metal and punk subgenres, and they still have anthologies coming out on a regular basis. It just seems odd to me, like the main reason would be legal stuff than someone not putting it out.

ya, could be sampling clearance issues? i dunno. i agree though, hip hop comps would be great but they need to be narrowed down like nuggets or anthology. maybe by region or decade or both

All Tomorrow's Parties is the greatest rock song ever created.
how do i into ambient like this? if im used to the more conventional ways of listening to music, how do i understand this? what am i taking away from it and how is this stuff even composed?

close your eyes and put all your attention the music.
With ambient, you either embrace it fully like >>73849967 said or just use it for background music whilst working or something.

Read Brian Eno's liner notes for his Music for Airports, in which he invented and defined the term, Ambient Music:
>Ambient Music must be able to accomodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting.
