/mlpol/ was confirmed by a mod in the irc to be staying, just unlisted. It seems likely that they'll do the same for the other merged boards too.

So far it looks to be comfier than actual /m/. Knock on wood, but the shitposting doesn't seem as prevalent.

The server load thing was a joke. If 4chan's software is anything like Wakaba, combining boards is likely to be worse for performance, because you get more posters and hence more page writes per board. Meanwhile, splitting boards is good because you can host them separately.
