Fortunately, Derpy is a regular background pony now in Season 5 & 6. Whoever decided to let her in the show way more often has our thanks.
Although she seems to be officially refereed to as "Muffins."
Which is also literally a fandom shout-out, since of the main background character jokes for her is that Derpy likes muffins.

Also worth noting is that on Derpy's first speaking role she out-shined Applejack in really what was her only episode that season. A bit funny in hindsight.
