/mlp/ got its strength from drawing in people from a wide variety of places. unlike most boards that have a particular topic like /pol/ being politics and /co/ being cartoons it was more of a melting pot since you could be a fa/tg/guy who got into ponies, a /pol/ack who got into ponies, and so on.
