Speaking as an oldfag, MLP has made a significant number of improvements from the first two seasons. Better background art, more consistent tone, better music, more fluid and expressive animation, hell, even the voice actresses have all improved their performances. But people would rather accentuate the parts they don't like and dedicate their time to make troll threads bitching about characters they don't like, or whining about how the film is going to flop because the staff doesn't like the president, or whatever stupid shit they're screaming about now.
There was even a thread saying MLP needs to scrap all of its adventure stories and just be slice of life. I mean, if you want that, G3 and G2 exist. You don't have to fuck over FiM.

Any critic watching the movie will see this as completely lazy and typical for a movie meant to sell toys to kids and they'd be right. I agree with you on the art and animation, but the music in the first two seasons was rock solid. Say what you want about Ingram and his ripoff songs, but Art of the Dress, At the gala, Winter Wrap up, ect... were quintessential pony songs.
They show was very song heavy in the first two seasons, and it was unusual to see more than 3 episodes in a row without at least a small musical part.
Now almost every song is just a repetitive chorus involving the words "magic" "friends" with some generic pop-like beat and anything decent is few and far between.

Sia's voice does not fit with the tone of this show at all. I just mean the way it sounds, not what the song is actually about. This show has always been great party because of the awesome voice actors who can really live out the characters by creating
