I guess the issue is more a philosophical one; in regards to what constitutes criticism and what doesn't. A simple button to downvote provides no feedback as to the reason someone downvoted an image. A person would need to comment to fully expand upon why they didn't like the image however typically it is more subjective rather than objective in terms of composition, shading, line work etc. Nevertheless I see quite often even when the comment of critique is objective the artist or defendants of the artist will state it is "of the artist's style" which opens up to many more questions. Does the artist's style constitute a negligence of critique or is it a crutch to cover the inability to take criticism. I believe it to be a case by case status as some images are objectively and artistically bad. But I believe the vast majority to be subjectively bad, that is to say someone's personal preference or bias dictates it to be bad. I believe true artistic critique can only be through objectivity and must disregard subject matter to be truly beneficial to the artist. This way the image analyst gives direct comments on how the artist can improve their composition as a whole without the threat of personal bias by the analyst.

I would like to continue by stating that I do not believe, to the best of my memory, have ever downvoted an image on Derpibooru. I have not due to a couple factors: one, downvoting, as I stated in my previous post, should constitute a comment expanding upon the downvote. Two, I don't particularly wish to take the time and effort to fully critique an image and break down the composition and explain to the artist the correct or incorrect aspects. Thirdly, I do not find Derpibooru as a whole to be a proper place for artistic criticism; I find other sites such as DA to be more conducive of discussion between analyst and artist.
