I don't know how to rate this, because it's...weird. We're missing the context from which this comic started at, because it feels like it's playing off right where the upcoming episode ends.
But all in all, it was pretty good nonetheless. I enjoyed Fluttershy actually being useful, and good continuity callback with the dragons in town.

It was a good issue overall, but the fandom collectively blew its lid because of this background pony.
This is actually an OC owned by Tumblr user DragonDicks, who has been harshly critical of bronies to the point where she's implied they shouldn't be allowed to watch and enjoy MLP at all. A bunch of people got pissed and emailed IDW about it. Ever since, IDW has been far more strict about things like creator OCs and whatnot.
This is just the cliffnotes version of what happened, and I'm sure somebody out there has a more detailed story.

The stories after issue 50 in the main series, as well as the Legends of Magic series, follow the show much more closely but quality can still vary. I'd personally say most issues recently have ranged between decent to good with the yak/dragon 2-parter being the only stinker.
Friends Forever was consistently good throughout. Ironically, the 1st and last issues are terrible but everything else in between was a fun read.

It was really boring. One I feel I'm a bit lost because the episode this is tied too doesn't come out for two weeks, and 2nd it feels like there is no conflict. They go to Filly to find Vine's descendant, she's eager to help, they find the flower with her help, Twilight's obsession gets brought up two pages before it's resolved, they work together and get the flower, Mage and Vine's descendants bang. There was no tension or uncertainty of where the story was going and even the Mage cutaway itself was very brief and anti-climactic. It was just... kinda uninteresting.
Which, to be fair, is better than outright shit like the mainline can be sometimes so I'll give it a 5/10 but, yeah. Not really going to remember a lot from this one.

Slightly related thread, I need some advice lads.
I'm after the Movie Comics, I'm aiming to get the 4 prequel ones they released.
Now, the thing is, these Comics released in a compilation book, which is available for £7 with the cover on the left. Alternatively, I can get all 4 comics for £20, with the 4 covers on the right. I much prefer the covers on the right, but it's almost 3 times the price, and having them in one book is sort of convenient.
I know in the end this is something only I can really answer, but I'm a bit torn so would appreciate any tips either way. It's worth noting I've not read any of them either.

I can't really help with that, but if you like the art of the separate covers, at least #1 and #2 are in the compilation book, both are pages in the preview on Amazon (towards the end, but be careful with the spoilers)

Obviously they're just regular pages, it's not the same, and I don't know if the other two covers are there too, but somehow you'd still have those two covers if you bought the compilation.
Also, for what it's worth, keep in mind that these aren't regular pony comics, and even though the mane 6 are on the covers, they aren't part of any story. The four comics are aboutStorm King, Celaeno, Capper, and Tempest Shadow.

But you did anon, I had no idea the book contained the covers too, even if it's not the same.
Might make a thread in the hope someone has the book on the left just to confirm if all the covers are in there at the back. Or to see if there's a rip online of the book. Because if that's the case, I think I can settle for the cheaper option, it really is just the covers I love the look of, I know the content is the same.
I know the comics cover the villains, I just need to catch up on a lot of them. Appreciate you keeping it spoiler free for me, you're a damn good lad. I hear they're pretty interesting and hopefully the movie itself is awesome too, even though some books have leaked half of it

She's a real qt that Somnambula. Reminds me of a toned down Pinkie when she's written well in the show. Scenario felt like a Swarm of the Century type one.

Honestly I've been trying to keep spoiler free as best as I can myself. I actually missed two of the digital releases and was lucky other Anons were there to do it instead.
