This. Around S3/S4 sometime they started using 50% males for all non-specific crowd scenes. If you take a generic crowd scene the split is always close to perfect, with the obvious exception being episodes that for example deal with Rarity's business, and the all-female crowds in her stores.

I do. I like crowd scenes.
IMO they hit their peak around S3 to S4.
Before that they were too samey and heavily relied on just a handful of copy-pasted background ponies. From S5 onward we start getting too many crowds like this one, where the background ponies are overdesigned and often ugly. Too many accessories IMO.

But yeah, close to a perfect split distribution between male and female, and cities follow consistent racial distributions as well.
