I wouldn't mind if it was just toxic or if they just had unreasonably high standards, I've existed on this site long enough as to where that doesn't bother me, but even my main problem was that when they would point out something I was doing wrong they wouldn't really give me any advice on how to correct it, even after asking multiple times.

Sometimes I see 'artists' posting sketches of things they've scribbled out on line paper that looks like something I'd draw out on my homework in elementary school. The only artists I've seen not get responses and/or meaningless responses to make the situation a little less awkward (like the 'the mane is flat' example you gave) are those types. If you lack the self realization in the first place to judge whether what you've drawn should even be posted for 'critique', I dunno what to tell you. All I can say to the both of you is to post something you've drawn instead of kvetching and maybe you'll get 'actual critique', since this thread is likely full of artists.
