I always liked the CMC, and I like poochie. If anything, the CMC aren't as good as they used to be.

Really? The CMC are significantly better now than they were in the earlier seasons. Rather than being undeveloped and inmature kid characters who couldn't carry episodes without loads of filler (rewatch show stoppers or cutie pox, filler is every where), the CMC grew into distinct characters and as that happen, the filler vanished. Later seasons had the CMC mature slowly over time, so it really felt like they were growing up and by seasons 6+7 I would almost argue that they are as mature as teenagers.

I personally loved watching their adorable little adventures. It made me feel like a kid again. Over the years, they've become a little inconsistent - Sweetie Belle doesn't sing anymore, Apple Bloom doesn't seem to be interested in potions and Scootaloo... actually she's about the same.
I like seeing them mature, and I think it's great that they can have episodes independent of each other. I just really liked their old dynamic.

The problem was when they did nothing to forward the plot or teach us anything about them or at the very least be funny.
I like the direction the CMCs characters went over the season, sure sweetie belle doesn't sing as much, but she is more into theater (I see this as a progression of her character) and AB found new hobbies later in the show and its becoming clearer that AB is a bit of the black sheep of her family even if its subtle. I see their cutie marks as a natural progression of their characters, they were always trying to help others even if they failed at it often (this is a pretty consistent part of their episodes) even if it was someone as rancid as Babs and their marks allow them to build upon the development they had earlier in the show regarding finding a cutie mark.

but I liked eberything else
No other season has a 24/26
that's why S5 is my favourite
