There's the usual argument that people don't like to pay for things, but I feel like the hatred for Patreon is more about how viscerally angry people can get when they suddenly have to pay for something that they once got for free. Fanart was taken for granted that someone will just make it in their spare time and upload it to a public forum where anybody can view it for free. Now that Patreon exists, people are becoming worried that every single fan artist worth following will put their galleries behind a paywall. The sheer ass ravagery that people spew regarding Patreon is a survival mechanism, really. By spreading their hate and anger, they're trying to create a narrative, consciously or not, that any artist who uses Patreon is a selfish shill who's using the fandom as a piggy bank to buy hookers and blow. If they create this atmosphere of distrust around Patreon, maybe artists will be reluctant to use it out of fear that their reputation will be spoiled, and then they can keep getting their free pony porn forever. The problem is that art takes time, effort, and talent, making it worth something. If they can't feed themselves with horsepussy, then they'll eventually have to give it up and get back in the toll booth.

Besides, their Patreon shit always leaks anyway.

The only Patreon projects I despise are the ones that involve SFM and those horrible 3D models. Everything of that can be downloaded for free and anyone can learn to do basic posing and animation in a week.

To be honest by far the worst thing is that so much art will be lost forever now, scattered in a thousand dropboxes, imgurs and google drives and so many artists don't do free stuff anymore, everything goes straight to their patreons. Good luck getting uncensored/nsfw shit in decent quality too.

My biggest problem with Patreon is that I don't know what I'm not getting, desu. Shydale did that AJ pic a while ago, and the only one on DB is the non-winking version. Now I'm paranoid over just how much of that wonderful art I'll never see.
