Turns out that mass ban-waves on a board's populace tends to discourage its creativity and spirit.

Decreased board population.
Users still frequenting here who hate one another clash much more often now that there aren't scores of other posters and content acting as a buffer and diversion.
Users who have constantly been reposting their frustrations as of late were most likely drowned out by the posting of the masses in the past, but now that their threads won't go zooming straight to 404 territory, they can finally shout as much as they want.
Also, a bored board is a dead board. People are much more irritable and argumentative when there isn't sufficient content and activities to pour energy into. I know generals do make people separate and settle into niches on the board, and that's not good, but there's a reason for it—they're the only places that still actively encourage creation and participation. Which is really what this entire website is based around. It's not a community if people don't want to participate. Fun is allowed when almost everyone finds something fun to do, something to keep them happy and coming back. With less people, there's less fun ideas being generated and less things to do. Ultimately, shitposters will make their own fun, turboautists screech to the choir, and the rest of us suffer. Boredom —> restlessness —> impatience & irritability —> hostility & destruction.
It's strange. This is the only place I know of where less people makes for a more cramped environment.
