The whole song and dance of Anon freaking out about talking horses and whatnot was done to death in the early days of pone fanfiction, which is why a lot of writers nowadays tend to gloss over it - or at least that's what I assume is the reason. If it doesn't add anything to the rest of the story, there's little point in making the reader sift through several paragraph of Anon freaking out about the same old thing before actually getting on with the story.
Same reasoning probably applies to the whole "Could I really be attracted to a pony? T-This isn't beastiality, right?" dilemma that used to be really prevalent in a lot of romance stories, but which you hardly ever see anymore.
