Has Lumineko committed any sins aside from using Patreon? Or is there just a certain amount of time of being prominent in a fandom before people start to hate you for no reason.

This is why "feature box" type things are a bad idea: They're dominated by popular artists, who then go on to become even more popular.

FIMFiction had the same shit, where the writers with 1500+ followers, literally anything they posted would get instant feature box simply because they had a large audience of people to upvote/favorite each new story.
