Depends on the circumstances surrounding the loss and the handling of her character afterwards.

For example, personally I find her initially gaining the wings via MMC to be relativity inoffensive, if poorly executed in some ways. In much the same vein I find that her character has been handled pretty well in my opinion since that point.

That being said, I would say they're a net positive to me so far. That's my personal opinion before you try to (You) me for saying that. As such, removing them would likley be negative, but if everything was handled well then it could work out quite well.

The only thing I can say with any certainty is that I personally find the wings aesthetically pleasing and I would be saddened to see them go for that reason if for no other reason.

I didn't contradict anything. I said that I thought that MMC was poorly executed but otherwise inoffensive. That is to say, I acknowledge that it's flawed, but I don't think it's inherently bad, more just meh.

If the series ended with MMC then I would probably be a little disappointed with the fact that she got her wings there, even though I personally like the episode for a number of reasons.

The thing is, it didn't end at that point, the show kept on going and Twilight's character kept on growing and evolving and her becoming an Alicorn was one of the many catalysts that spurred on those changes. Because of the wings we got to see sides of her character that we wouldn't have seen otherwise, and we got to explore different scenarios that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

I'll reiterate that I think that in the grand scheme of things that her getting her wings was a good thing for FiM even if the when and how behind her getting them was handled poorly insofar as it should have been something big and intricate but instead we got something small and overly simplistic.

It's complicated, I guess, I can see that what I typed here is a bit of a clusterfuck, but I hope you can at least understand where I'm coming from here.

I could try to break things down more, but I really don't want to get into it right this second.
