5 hours in I blew up Megaton, killed 3 Dog, and let ghouls into Tenpenny. Yeah, the book was a lot different. New Vagas was the best written of the modern Fallouts since Obsidian made it, but none of the ponified stories really followed its formula, Pink eyes came the closest, but is the worst of the 4 FE worth reading( FE, PH, Murkey #7, and last and least Pink Eyes).

Calling it a "clopfic" is akin to calling a movie "porn" because it contains a sex scene.

It's contextualized really well, contains important character building and insights about the world and foreshadowing of the further story, really the only reason it's got this weird "optional 0.5 chapter read with caution" status is because the author went out of his way to make sure nobody gets triggered. If this wasn't ponies but humans this would be regular part of the story and nobody would bat an eye

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you never actually read the story. I've played the games, I've read the story. The story is not the same. It plays out differently, emphasizes different themes, has a larger cast of characters, more variety in events, and feels a lot more grand.

It's an MLP setting with some post-apocalyptic fallout themes and imagery, not "Fallout, but everything is a pony". You'd have to be willfully blind to think that.

It's been a while since I read that but hadn't they like been communicating for months and that's the first time they actually physically meet? And it's the part where pip let's go of the thought of being with velvet, which has sorta kinda been her motivation for the entire story up to the point? And she gets super duper motivated to do the whole saving-the-world-thing again after being super down for the longest while? And throghout the entire bit they eat like fresh grapes and pip speculates where they come from?

The way I recall it honestly wouldn't be the same story without that chapter. I mean yeeeah I can kinda see that the author maybe went a bit overboard going into gratuitous shlicky details but I don't know, dismissing it as "the porn bit" feels pretty silly to me.

I love Fallout, I love ponies... But I still get a sense a crossover fanfic is just a crossover fanfic regardless of fandom praise. In order to be recognizable as Fallout, there are a ton of recycled concepts from it right?

My guess is FO:E and especially Project Horizons tickle people's autism just the right way because it's 20% sexual frustration, 20% Falloutesque humor, 30% cute ponies doing awful violence and 30% MUH LORE.

Am I wrong?

Fallout and ponies already have a lot in common, believe it or not. The reason that Fallout is set in the fifties is because the contrast between the golden, happy age of the fifties compared to the grimdark, horrible post apocalypse is inherently humorous. The same concept applies with ponies and fallout. Take the saccharine, noblebright world of Equestria, throw it into the blender, and you get the same kind of humour.

Ponies and 40K doesn't work because 40k is extremest grimdark. There's no contrast for it to work with. Everything was shit, is shit and will continue to be shit for all of eternity, in 40k. Ponies are just out of place.

As someone who read the entirety of the main story, I want to say it's because, for one thing, it really is well written and fun to read regardless of the themes or story itself. Just on a technical level it makes for good literature. Having a good idea for a story is not what gets you readers, executing it well does.

Also, it was one of the first MLP fanfictions to speak of period. It's as old as the show and had really an really ambitious scope and it was fun following it along as new chapters came out.
