The series only gets better from there. Episodes start taking themselves a bit more seriously (not overly serious though) and they stop talking down to their audience.

Some characters get a lot better during the later four seasons, like all three CMC, spike, Fluttershy, big mac, and some new characters you haven't seen yet , but a few get worse applejack and rainbow dash.
