Sadly yes.

He died, no more sticks and nice threads here.
>>
>>30772105
you find this ridiculous and yet that was the whole reason so many people started watching the show in the first place, it pissed people off
>>
>>30772021
No, outside of generals that actually manage to provide content, the board is dead. Show discussion outside episode day falls off the board while a Glimmerboop thread is guaranteed 249 posts and 72 IPs. Go ahead and browse any other board on this god forsaken website for a day, we are irrefutably the worst board on the site apart from /b/ and nu/pol/.

>started watching to piss people off
friendo, you can post ponies to piss people off without watching the show. doing something alone that no one can prove you did or didnt do just to piss people off doesnt make any sense.
>>
>>30773214
the whole reason it got POPULAR was because it pissed people off, the point is it is fun to be apart of a cancerous community

What a qt hoers

4chan like to take way more credit than theyre due. the love and tolerance brony community dwarfs the /mlp/ community.
>>
>>30772021
this is now a barneyfag thread
>>
>>30773443
that is where you are wrong, because that is the same community. i will explain, the series is disliked by many people simply because it is designed for kids and therefore naturally there is stigma toward men viewing it. in this example we consider these "common enemy". bwonies join the fandom so that they could be oppressed by the common enemy, therefore gaining common interest with other people, and ultimately have feeling of belonging opening opportunities to make friends. this is why fans of the fandom is a thing, why watching a cartoon at all is considered a highlight of a persons hobby (they literally wont not tell you they watch the show, the difference between bronies and ponyfags is simply shame). they want to be either hated or loved
>>
>>30773508
he is handsome man, i really wonder if he is for sure the original barneyfag
>>
>>30772021
After Gamergate, when m00t replaced most of the mods with SJWs, /mlp/ got a bunch of mods with control over the board that hated MLP. Seriously. The mods who were given control over /mlp/ explicitly hated it and didn't want it to exist.

There are some chatlogs floating around out there if you can search them out, but the end result is that the moderation of this board has probably been a bit more troubled and tumultuous than the average board on this site, and not just because it was really popular for other boards to raid and shitpost in this one.

The reason it got popular was because what most people expected to be the final death of creator-driven animation actually turned out to be pretty good. Surprisingly so, with solid animation/voice work, and actually clever plotlines that gave new twists on otherwise zombified plot threads.

It was like a more family-friendly, wholesome version of Rick and Morty.

In essence, people were pessimistic, and this show surprised people and was a kind of ray of hope. It also offered something with (at the time) some imagination and depth to the ideas that showed up in the show.

Then the community formed around it that was a bit different than other shows or books. It was formed out of honest, positive surprise and appreciation. Everyone was surprised that they liked it as much as they did, and wanted to reflect and expand on the positive, constructive cheer and goodwill that the show inspired.

Then the Social Justice Warriors in the fandom, general populace, especially in the university departments, and many showrunners started their campaign of societal destruction, identity politics, and public racist, sexist meltdowns and stomping of free speech. MLP and the previously competent writing team, along with arms of Hasbro, were casualties of this wider change in western culture, and things have been going downhill ever since.

But hey, absolute best case scenario, the show might, possibly, hopefully, slim-chance-but-maybe, outlast this relapse of marxist communists after they're beaten down again like they were in the 80s/90s. If that happens, then MLP will have one more historical note to it.

This.

People started watching MLP because the entire thing was a huge surprise. When I started watching the first episode, I was expecting bottom of the barrel 'tea parties and dresses' trash, and was immediately greeted with 'ONE THOUSAND YEARS AGO, THE SUN GOD IMPRISONED THE MOON GOD!' And then when that was over, I expected simple, one syllable dialogue for children, and met Twilight Sparkle, who launched into a tirade about her magic studies. And then Ponyville showed up, and wasn't eye gougingly saccharine. And then when Pinkie actually started singing, like I expected, the fucking ponies next to her started cringing. It was fantastic.

MLP didn't get so popular because it was amazing. It didn't get popular because people wanted to piss off other people. It got popular because it was a competently done show, full of lore and characters and places in a show that didn't deserve any of those things, because Faust could have just copied the last seasons and taken her paycheck home. Like anyone would have done.

Sure, those expectations and subversion have died a little in recent years, but the show still somehow manages to take corporate mandates on the chin and turn them into semi-decent characters. It still remains interesting.

>because Faust could have just copied the last seasons and taken her paycheck home. Like anyone would have done.

Reminds me a bit of Batman Beyond. The suits wanted a "batman in high school" series, but the show creators decided to make a show that was actually great. So good, in fact, that it arguably launched the DCAU with the Justice League followup, after Batman the Animated Series and Superman Adventures had their run.

MFW this thread suddenly becomes nostalgic
It isn't bad though
>>
>>30774396
Don't forget that MLP came at a time where the "CalArts" era was starting to really establish itself and almost every new show on CN seemed to be a copy of itself.
Granted back then it wasn't as bad as it is now, the state of modern CN is a fucking trainwreck, but it was enough to make MLP feel a lot more "refreshing"
