Very few fans cares about the quality of the show anymore. Good storytelling is non existent anymore, and any quality writing that the show has left is so little that it never makes up for the bad.
People think the episode was good because they they only want cute ponies doing cute things, and the meta jokes are a bonus for them. The writers are the ones who care the least, they just want their paychecks from hasbro.

The morales are meta indeed, but they, just like any good morale, are vague enough to work in other specific contexts. 1) Your headcanons shouldn't necessarily be canon 2) It's impossible to please everybody so there's no point in trying to please one specific group of people

Slice of Life was a love letter to the fandom, I mean they brought back the sea serpent from the second episode and called him Steven Magnet, it was the writers telling the fans that the show wouldn't have reached season 5 without them.
Fame and Misfortune on the other hand was a shitpost by the writers telling the fans to fuck off.

Even putting aside the individual messages, the episode as a whole is so horribly meta that it just feels like a fucking political cartoon.

The entire thing comes off as preachy and mean-spirited. Something like this belongs in South Park, not FIM.
