I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound? Everybody look what's goin' down.
This fandom's been on life support for years now. Wake up and realize that this shit won't last forever.
Sure, we all like to believe that this ride will never end, but it will. And this goddamn movie will be the final nail in the coffin.
>>
>>30727983
No idea what the fuck this is. Are these projections ever accurate?

Did we ever get confirmation of the $65 million budget? Also, who the fuck wants to see a Lego Ninjago movie?

Is opening with $7 million good or bad?
>>
>>30728129
Depends on how much they spent to produce the movie.

>>30728042
I do. Both of the previous Lego movies were surprise hits, plenty of people will see this because they want to see if Lego can pull off a hat trick.

>>

For reference, the reason why the projection is so conservative is that Lionsgate's two big animated releases were Norm of the North (made a profit, but infamously bad and had 0% on RT for a while) and Rock Dog (mediocre Chinese production that only made $20 million of its $60 million budget back and had an absolutely terrible opening weekend everywhere.)

I do think however they underestimate the pop cultural phenomenon connected to it and it will probably go up in projection as we get closer to it.

The critics don't want to see cringe and neither to 99% of most audiences. MLP is synonymous with faggotry which will drive audiences to see Blade Runner 2049 and Justice League instead.

>>30728229
Celebrity VAs and lots of marketing will help. Honestly, most animated films flop financially because they have to work really hard to market themselves unless they are Disney/Pixar. And even then, you can have films like The Good Dinosaur.

MLP has the presence as well as the marketing chops to shill itself hard.
>>
>>30728259
It's going to crash and burn with any budget.

Everyone knows MLP is trash. It's DONE. DOA. It will make less than a million in the opening weekend even.

This. It's not like Hasbro makes money from airing commercials. Most television animation is meant to sell toys and merchandise. If the movie sells enough merch then it can be called a success regardless of how much money it makes at the box office.
>>
>>30727983
>>30728229
Long term forecasts aren't always accurate.
The movie Opening the same weekend of Blade Runner could be a boon. MLP is not competing for he same audience as Blade Runner. The Emoji movie despite how crap it was beat Atomic Blonde in the Box Office on Opening weekend.

Also i think Hasbro is more interested in the toy department sales. If the movie cause their sale for pony rise significantly then for them, it is a success.

It doesn't help that trailers for MLP Movie were aired in the commercial section before Smurf Movie and Emoji Movie premiered.

It will fail because there is still a stigma in watching a little girls cartoon or even trying to review it. The modern normie you tube channels are too ashamed to watch the movie or even name the video with it.
Same with Guardians of Harmony that was a failure. People just don't buy the "little ponies can be also enjoyed by boys" shtick and so the movie will also fail at box office. Then, Meghan will be replaced by some newbie executive and focus on developing their Monster High clone that actually give them money.
>>
>>30727983
Now show us the merchandise sales forecast. You know, the sales Hasbro actual cares about.
>>
>>30731845
If they just cared about toy sale, they would just make more cheap Equestria girl movies. If MLP Movie fail to reach normies, then it will be also a failure with merchandise sale.

Guardians of harmony was a MASSIVE success at christmas, being one of amazon's top sellers. Opening with $7 million isn't really good unless the movie only cost $10 million to make or something. I'm not actually sure how much the MLP movie is going to cost. Based on the trailer, the animation is pretty fluid but there's a lot of really cheap looking stuff in it. Especially the 3D.

>>30728268
Current trailer shows the ponies interacting with each other in a white void. Pic related. That's the glorious Canterlot they're standing in, not that you could tell from this shot.

It could turn around but from what we've seen so far I think a conservative estimate on the movie's performance is fair. Additionally, it doesn't matter how many bronies want to see it, parents don't really want single men in theaters with their kids and single men don't want to look like pedophiles in public.

>>30727983
So what? It was projected that a Popeye movie would be a commercial failure, but the Emoji Movie was worth everyone's time. It was projected that Hillary Clinton would handily win the presidency. It was projected that there could never be a critically successful Sonic game.

Always take these sorts of numbers with a grain of salt. These are all done by people who are completely disassociated from reality. Fuck, the movie has already finished production EARLY, so Hasbro has a good head start on getting it distributed and promoting it to hell and back. Furthermore, all these numbers completely ignore Rotten Tomatoes, where a movie's pre-release score determines its success.

To recap: the MLP movie has an audience of children, celebrity watchers (people WILL see the movie just for SIA, Taye Diggs, and the rest), animation nerds, and bronies. Being a children's movie, it will be completely critic-proof in its first week and rake in about 30 mil. All it really needs to do is be a GOOD movie, and Hasbro has to keep awareness and hype momentum strong.
>>
>>30731265

The demo is absurdly limited to ages 5-7, mostly girls, and Hasbro corporate has tarnished the brand for a huge swath of the adults. What would make you think the movie would be a sure thing like that?
>>
>>30740104
Because it's My Little Pony. The movie. Even if they failed they couldn't fail.
>>
>>30740104
Ever been to /vp/? People there are always complaining about the latest Pokemon game, and yet they're buying them anyway. It's no different here. For its "tarnished" reputation, y'all are still gonna see the movie.
>>
>>30740127
Complaining about the games is one thing. It's another thing when you're getting back numbers from all the "brony" websites and conventions saying they're experiencing 15% drops in interest or more for two years straight.

Is there still a fandom? Yes. An enthusiastic one? Maybe not. One so caught up in the show that they'd risk public embarrassment to watch a pony movie? Honestly I'm not really confident it's there.

The movie is targeting a young age, one gender, and based on how things are going it won't give a fuck if parents enjoy it. On top of that, a lot of aspects of the movie look cheap in the trailer. The plot sounds fairly trite.

I could be wrong. I'm just saying, it sounds a little silly to try to bill the movie as guaranteed when in reality there's a lot of ways and reasons for it to fail.
>>
>>30736411

You could argue that wasn't Hasbro, that was the Hub. The Hub was desperately trying to be an entertainment channel, so it was trying to entertain people. Hasbro is trying to sell toys, so Twilight is a princess living in a crystal castle playset.

No idea why they're making a movie.
