The song would've been better had the episode been written to fit it. Hell the episode itself would've been better. Come to think of it, the episode didn't even fit the fucking synopsis. No one was arguing over who had the best lessons because no one gave a shit about the lessons.

I think it's just because it has the whole mane6 singing together in harmony. They never really did that before EqG, but do it in almost every EgG song. In the main show, they would usually have a separate chorus layered over them.

Also, they keep hammering that Pinkie Pie is not just a joke pony but then they make episodes like Green Isn't Your Color and Rock Solid Friendship (per example) when Pinkie Pie is flandrezied to a over the top extreme.

Perhaps it would have been better in another episode, or even if this episode followed its synopsis and actually had ponies arguing over lessons instead of spewing direct fandom opinions from three years ago.

Also, I fucking hate how in S6 on the animation during songs is so cheap. Ingram swore things would pick up again in S8 with more songs and an orchestra but man. They need better animation.

I love this song to pieces. I can't help it. Some folks say it's actually utter shit, but I just don't see it. I don't claim to be /mu/ and have good taste. Judging that musical number on its own, it's really sweet. The song, the choreography, and the vocal performance, all taken together, are top notch in my book. It single-handedly saved the episode for me, despite not really fitting into it.

"Flawless" had no effect on their fans and "Best Friends Until the End of Time," a song about how great friendship can be when you work together, resulted in them actually failing their goal. This Day Aria is definitely one of his best, I think the entirety of A Hearth's Warming Tail is some of his overall best work to date. I don't think I'd talk of peak just yet, I'd need a few years of lesser work for that.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if this wasn't just one episode. Every other episode this season was "normal" without self-referential humour.

Only part of this song that stuck out to me as good was Rainbow's verse.
What stuck out to me as bad was when Rebecca Shoichet was voicing Twilight for the song, you could tell she was really slipping out of it. It didn't sound nearly anything like Twilight. Kazumi Evans was also slipping in to overly low tones for Rarity. There were also some audio hiccups you could notice at the end of the chorus loops.
