I'm not dead. I'm still working on the project
the thing is: unreal engine does not have an in-engine tools for dialogues
and the blueprint system it's almost incapable to managing dynamically external files like excels, google spreadsheets, xml, json and so on
so the first iteration of my dialogue system is virtually impossible to scale: I would have to hard coding everything for each character
which, considering that for just the vault I think I would have 20 characters that can have dialogues (even if not all important), is not feasible
given that I'm not paying for an third party dialogue plugin (since I want to put everything on github and leave my project opensource) I have to do it myself
so I have to develop using C++
I already know c++, but I have to learn to use unreal tools and it will take a bit

TL;DR: must develop a scalable dialogue system by myself, it takes time

>spending thousands of dollars to have someone read my little pony fanfiction to you
>>
>>30732547
it's neat actually
I have plenty of audiobooks and they're comfy: I can work on something boring or repetitive while I listen to something way more interesting
>>
>>30732547
Better than spending the money on alcohol to soothe the fact you are all alone.
>>
>>30732545
What I would do is define a new graph type and a set of nodes such that I could just draw the dialogue tree right inside the blueprint editor. I did this in another similar engine and it works well.

Plush maker for that audiobook project here. Really hope someone buys that Hellmare tier. Not out of any shit for more funding, but mostly because I want to make a Raider Pip plush super bad.

Also, ask questions if you got em.
>>
>>30733315
I really want to contribuite, but I can give only about 50€ and at this point I don't know how much those can help
how works indiegogo? can the project start even without a 100% founding?
I want raider pip so badly
>>
>>30733354
Unfortunately, the way the campaign is set is that it's all or nothing. So if we don't reach 100%, everything gets refunded.

But totally chip in the 50€. We're contacting Indiegogo right now about getting a campaign extension. They basically always hand those out. So that'd be an extra 30 days to make up the other half. If we got this much in the first month, we should hopefully pull in the rest in the second
>>
>>30733390
all right, by tomorrow morning there will be 50€ more for our littlepip
>>
>>30733315
Can't people just commission you privately?
>>
>>30733464
Totally. And if someone wants to do that, they can. This way though, I get to make a Raider Pip and we all get a pro audiobook. So that seems solid to me.

Scandalously clad pones?
>>
>>30717654

It died because Sunfall died.
>>
So why do none of the protags get a raider cult worshipping them as an avatar of vengance or declaring them leader for killing so many?
Seems like it would be interesting to add to a story.

>day 2... probably

>I just eat some of the few snacks I had in my saddlebags
>my clock broke so I don't know exactly what time it is but it's lighter than before so I think I can assume is day time
>Warm woke up few minutes ago, I was so happy I started crying
>now she's sleeping again but at least I know she's... almost health
>can't say the same thing from me... some chunks of mane fell when I woke up and... my piss was red, as my faeces
>the teachers at Canterlot taught about this effect... I'm soon going to die
>I managed to dig a hole with my hooves, large enough to do my things there, but not deep enough to cover it with dirt
>the smell is starting to bug me, a lot
>I still can't use my magic, but now I can dig with my hooves so... I should start to work on it

>my hooves still hurt
>but I managed to dig... a meter maybe. the ground is so hard
>Warm woke up again, she was hungry
>breezies can eat pony food but it's not healthy for them
>that said, I gave her a snack. now I think I have food only for another day
>if I survive

>more gunfire
>I'm wondering what's happening outside
>it doesn't sound good
>sometimes there are screams and explosions
>all far away... but they still make me uneasy
>calling for help gave the same result as before: none
>I'll resume digging
>Warm said she wishes I were a diamond dog right now
>the way she told that hurt me a bit
>she's not mean usually, just stressed
>>
>>30757814
>day 3
>we... escaped
>we're free
>I was resting after doing a couple of meters upwards
>I heard a wet feeble sound
>another raindrop then hit the metal of the sky wagon
>and then Cloudsdale fell upon us
>our hole began to be filled with a sick, greenish water
>I had to fight the urge to drink it, we were really thirsty
>but clean water isn't supposed to be of that color
>the water started to burn my hind legs while I was digging my way up using my horn to pierce the dirt above us and my hooves to move the rocks, they still burn now
>Warm wanted to help, but the rain... the rain dissolved part of her left wing
>she started crying until exhaustion. now she's sleeping on my head
>after we get out from that death trap, we... I since Warm was already sleeping, saw what remained of our city Neighton
>all that remained were the skeletons of the skyscrapers
>just empty metal shells, most of them collapsed on the streets below
>looking up to the sky, I only saw a dark gray blanket of clouds
>pegasus used to make some storms from time to time, but no one was like this one
>it's so dark, seems night. the rain falls hard and violently
>almost... wild
>and evil
>few minutes were enough to make me understand that this rain doesn't bring life and relief to the soil
>but only a burning rage
>we found shelter inside an old bowling alley
>most of the structure collapsed, yet it seemed sturdier than the rest
>there I checked my saddlebags
>school supplies, books, a game colt, a dozen bits, my documents, house keys and my last snack
>I cried when I found a picture of our family within the documents
>I want my mom... my dad...

>oh sure not all of them had wings, but they still liked to roll around
>that was odd, eveypony was gathered in a group looking at something
>you hovered up to see iver them when you heard a steam pipe fail and a sudden pain in your chest
>well more you felt a hole in your chest and saw the crowd part before a scarred small grey unicorn.
> you didn't recognize her or what she carried in her magic, but you didn't like the way she was coming at you.
>she kept calling you a dirty raider

Heroes is another one of the big five, and it's a little shorter than the OG FO:E

Duck and Cover is a good deconstruction of the trend, with Make love, not war as a sequel to that

Gardener is a semi-feelsy fic with a good depiction of post-apocalyptic religion

Wasteland Economics, The ABC's of Fallout Equestria and Outlaws were written by the writefags here

Was thinking of writing a short for this since we're back.
What is the emotional temperament of this thread?

Are we philosophical?
Do we want action like John Wick or more like Jackie Chan?
Should survival be a constant question, the idea that the character might not live to the last page?

>>30767432
I always thought something like The Last of Us had good action for a post apocalyptic setting. Stealthy when you can, loud when you have to. Brutal melee combat. The gore is there not to shock but mostly because it's a part of violence. Now if only TLoU could have more moments like this and less ladder searching
>>
>>30768988
They should be cute. I'll be changing the eyes and mane a bit compared to the example that's on the campaign page, but they should be just as adorable.

Really looking forward to doing all the Raider Pips and the whole cast for that insane 5k tier
>>
>>30770268
So a good idea would be too have resigned to combat in the story?
Neither side wants to fight, but in the end, only one can really stay alive or at least conscious in the scene?
There is no elaborate scenes of bouncing off walls or throwing desks in the path of bullets, they just shoot right off the bat and that's it, or tear down the floor above someone and move on.
The whole fight being seconds apart but just brutal as part of that fact.
>>
>>30772191
I have no idea what the hell you just said, but I think I get the general idea.
I think it's best when action scenes in post apocalyptic stories are gritty and realistic. Nothing off the walls, but brutal.
However, it's also important to have variety, otherwise your action scenes become repetitive

Day 147 since Stable exile
Found a tower to hold up in near the center of some old village. Not a lot to say about it, but at least it’s a high up place. Kind of like how it turned out, get evicted thanks to the hellmare and now find out that there is a whole giant world up here to fly in. Can’t fly too much right now though, not strong enough to go more than a few minutes still. Celestia hoping that it’s just an exercise thing and not developmental.
PS Tirek is due to have been eaten by now. Fuck that cock.
//////
>Look up from your pipbuck at the remains of the old clockwork machinery.
>It’s all you have to call home now, and that is what you most needed.
>The doors lock, the stairs are broken, and you can always fl-glide away.
>You really wanted to be able to fly like you had seen other pegasi do, but for now you knew you needed to practice your shooting skills.
>You didn’t get the luxury of anything when you went out into the wasteland, everypony in the stable was too scared to help you or save you.
>You’d learned then what it was like to be powerless, to have no control over your life.
>You never wanted to be like that again.
>The tightness in your chest from every breath made sure you would be reminded for the rest of your life.
>You tugged the beat up revolver from the crude strips of fabric near your fetlocks with your mouth.
>You’d hoped that your pipbuck might have been combat equipped, to be able to use the SATS function you had seen advertised, but it was locked down, and only your stable pipbuck technician could free it.
>A technician you could no longer go to.
>You tongued the trigger and felt the ratchet of the hammer cocking back.
>>
>>30779493
>You breathed in and out, focusing on the can as you tugged back the last bit of the paddle and dropped the hammer.
>Your shot clipped the can and sent it spiraling around the workbench, dented but still very much upright.
>You tried again, this time leaning to the right.
>The shot pinged off the top and sent the can tumbling back and off.
>The next three cans went better, but you had emptied the cylinder of your wheel gat.
>Reloading had been clumsy at first, you’d thought you needed to use the whole cylinder and broken a revolver bashing it with a hammer on the rod to eject it.
>You’d realized afterwards that if you could reload the cylinder away from the gun, you could reload it on the gun.
>Score one for hindsight.
>You pulled a bullet up from your inventory and felt it pop into existence on your hoof.
>The sorting spell at least worked on them, but you wished you could just put them straight into your revolver, or better, your feathers.
>You plucked the bullet up and gently slotted it in with a wing before repeating the process four more times.
>You’d learned very sharply it was a bad idea to fill all of the chambers when one round had gone off while walking.
>The gun went back into its crude holster and you turned to go take care of your meal when you heard the oddest of sounds.
>A faint ruffling of wings, and large ones at that.

Investigate the strange noise, or eat?

>You’d lived long enough in the wasteland by jumping at everything, the sound of your own shadow included.
>You pulled dinner off the fire, no sense it letting it get ruined if it was nothing dangerous.
>You went near the door and listened, you heard it again, louder this time.
>It was close enough that you knew it was open the door and look for it, or have it open the door.
>You pushed carefully, and looked down the stairs.
>There was nothing there, so you looked up.
>There was a griffon up there by the ceiling, holding onto a very large rifle.
>Quietly you slunk back in the door and pulled it almost shut.
>You didn’t trust it to not click and get you in trouble.
>You fluttered gently, barely putting any pressure on the floor as you went back to eat.
>Yeah, not your problem, Claws or whoever they were, they were in it only for caps.
>You leave them alone and they’ll leave you alone.
>Unless they were after you.
>After you.
>You dropped forward and rolled past the fire, the claw clutching at where you had just been.
>You flipped over and took to the air, angling for a window, but were too far and low to glide through one.
>A flightless, lazy Pegasus, now suddenly fighting for his life.
>Wait, why fight?
>”I don’t want trouble, I can stay here until you’re gone.”
>You held up your hooves to show you meant it, forgetting the revolver in there.
>Or the fact that you should not have instinctually tried to grab it when it fell out.
>The griffon aimed his rifle at you, and you shot first.
>Well more of caught it in the worst possible way and had it go off someway.
>He was not amused, a small scuff on his painted armor showing that you had hit him.
>Your attempt to nervously smile and shrink back did little to get him to think it was a mistake.
>>
>>30785162
>He walked forward, and reached for you.
>In for a hoof, in for the herd you figured, and just tonged the trigger several times.
>The small bangs didn’t seem to do anything to him, until he tumbled forward clutching several parts close and cursing.
>Well the good news was you don’t think he was going to die, the bad news was you just shot a Foot soldier.
>You heard other voices in the room now, of course they all had radios.
>All you had to do was tell them it was a big misunderstanding and that everything was just fine.
>Until you saw the blood smear on the feathered face and dangling headset.
>You’d managed to shoot the microphone in that burst, no way to stop what was happening now, fast.

Try and repair the headset, find out if whoever is on the other side of it willing to stand down
Or
Stand your ground, for some reason the Talons are after you. Interrogate the one you have and try to figure out a way to freedom.

I would like to thank Shenanigans for writing this fic as much as he has, and KykerAdams for suggesting it.

To begin, this fic seems to be a more interesting take on exploration of the wasteland than your typical seeing it from behind a gun. Its more interested in establishing who would live in the wasteland, why, and what it means than the typical how of killing many things.

The main character is called Tumbleweed, an earth pony willing to discuss the past and enjoy it, rather than treat it as a holy period or ignore it as many fics do.
This works well to establish him as an actual character, as opposed to your typical protagonist of only caring for the lootz and gunz they can steal liberate.
The plot as set at the begenning is very open.
Tumbleweed has to go down a highway and setup a trade route.
Did I say open ended?
I meant, has a defined goal from the start and conditions to meet for success.
Whelp, no lollygagging around as the end of the world approaches and finding out that you suddenly are the prophetic chosen one to save Equestria thanks to the actions of a prewar zebra alicorn fighting for the Crystal Empire.
How can this be an /FOE/ fic if we aren't uncovering ancient conspiracies while trying to get laid, I call Shenanigans.

Wait....

Dammit we've been rused boys.
Kudos to the author.

So here we are, Tumbleweed is a simle earth pony who actually has a history in the wasteland, with his employer, and as a pony.
We see none of this, but hey, the fact its implied is good to say this character existed and wasn't just here to guide us along.
So what is Pip's colors again?
The chapter itself is not much, its largely just setup as one would expect.
Setup and having the snowflake Equestrian zebra, second only to Dashites in popularity and even less explainable, show up.
Complete with brooding mysterious cloak to hide the fact they are a zebra.
You could have gone with a simple suncloak and dust hat you know.
>>
>>30790748
Well the good news is it doesn't last long, the zebra doesn't try to speak in haiku, rhymes, metaphors, or even an allegory.
He does speak a nonpony tongue though in trying to control a robot to get a decent drink.
A programming zebra, that's right folks, we finally have a zebra who can fight off the buffalo for a programming job at Stabletech.

The meeting between Tumbleweed and designated damsel in distress disguised as a fearsome badass comes down to an exchange of names, some chatter on Tumbleweed's mysterious backpack, and a fight over who will pay the other's tab at a bar.
Not much of a meeting, but we do find the zebra is a bounty hunter, but he fights for justice and not money, like a good person!
Because you know, ideals are something you cane at when they get shoved in your face now, and not like caps which you can't eat.
Why can't we just go and have a mercenary who is in it solely for tangible useful goods and anything higher is because someone paid her?
Call it, the Life of a Talon, or how bang bang can become bling.

So this zebra runs out of the bar determined to fight off a bunch of raiders in a trap so transparent you'd mistake them for Dice Warwick's Mirage ponies.
And of course, rather than just mosey on with the original, well defined plot, Tumbleweed has to go and rescue him.
Because getting yourself killed over people you've known for less time than the lifespan of a Blackjack plushie near Riddles is clearly going to make your boss happy.
It'd be too nice to expect the justice equine to fight his way out this trap and meetup later.
So clearly its time to pit Tumbleweed versus raiders, but hey at least violence didn't occur in the first chapter.
Unless you count down the fact that a prewar robot burnt down a bar while trying to get someone to pay their tab after 2 centuries of being a skeleton.
I've heard of hot cash, but I don't think burning down your business is how you collect a debt, you're supposed to burn down the debtors home.

>my mouth is still trembling a bit, I couldn't write before and I'm still having troubles
>it was about middle afternoon, after entering the bowling alley and resting a bit Warm and I looked for anypony that could help us
>I... think they where a pony before. they corpses were deformed, burned, with almost no coat or mane and even the skin was begun to melting
>a couple dozen ponies laid in a green poll above large hole in the roof of the maintenance room, from which the rain was falling heavily inside
>I was about to leave, not wanting to get wet from that rain, when Warm screamed in a room ad the side of the maintenance
>running inside the room I saw a moving corpse, that looked much alike the ones in the green pool, trying to climb a cabinet to reach Warm on top of it
>then it stopped and looked at me
>his eyes were slightly green, dead. yet observing
>it's hard to describe, he didn't looked at me like I was a pony, I'm still not sure if he actually looked at me or was just my panic attack
>I didn't have time to think, he just started to run towards me
>scared in panic, I fled outside the room
>I must have tripped on some wood panels or bowling ball, because I didn't manage to run much and stumbled in the middle of the maintenance room
>trying to get up was futile, before I knew he was on top of me and bit one of my ears, pulling it
>he bit me so hard I heard the sound of my flesh being tore apart while I was screaming
>and I screamed loudly
>then he bit my shoulder and chewed
>it was the first time I was afraid for my life, I thought zombie ponies were a fantasy, a cruel fantasy used by my parents when I was a colt
>I kicked to free myself, as hard as I could
>but I was too weak to overpower him
>I thought it was the end, then feeble light hovered above us
>the zombie pony stopped and screamed
>keeping kicking I freed myself and jumped away from the monster
>Warm flew to me and hugged my muzzle, radiating that pale golden light

>You went for the headset and gave it a tug, you just needed to fix it and everything would be just fine.
>Your thoughts fell apart with the head set, the whole assembly crumbling from the tiny bullet’s damage.
>You needed a new plan, but you also needed to escape.
>Someone here knew more about things than you right now.
>All you had to do was get the Talon to talk, maybe you could find a way out.
>But this was your home, you didn’t want to leave it.
>The voices on the radio were getting angrier, you wouldn’t have much time.
>You went for the Talon’s gear, starting with his rifle.
>It wouldn’t be easy to use, but you figured you could make it work for you.
>There was the mouth bit, the tongue paddle, and a bunch more things on it meant for claws.
>You’d have to make do with wings and hope it worked.
>The armor was next, you were going to be fighting, and didn’t want to get shot ever again.

“Fine.”
>The griffon finally spoke, revealing it to be a grifhen.

>She undid clasps and belts before pushing the plates at you, pained winces coming from where they brushed her injured limbs.
>Not your problem, she went after you first.
>The wasteland would be her judge, you just needed to escape.
>You tugged and slipped the pieces on, they were a bit snug so you loosened them for comfort.
>There were some areas that pinched and rubbed, but you didn’t want to wear it long anyways.
>>
>>30800844
>You knew Talons had enemies, and you didn’t want to gain them.
>There was no saddle mount or other way of carrying the rifle she had, the most you found was a sling that left it dangling from your neck.
>She had a small bag of supplies, into which you added your own.
>You considered leaving it as a peace offering, maybe even adding some of your own supplies to show you hadn’t meant any of this.
>But no, she was weak, she had failed to stop you, this was the way of the Wasteland.
>And her friends could help her.
>The other Talons.
>You smashed your muzzle with a hoof, you needed to get by them to escape.
>The grifhen just glared at you as you turned at her.
>”How do I get out of here?”
“Buck you.”
>You considered for a moment maybe doing just that, but had neither the time nor interest.
>You opted to just put a hoof down on one of her wounds and twist.
>She screamed and tried to pull away, but you put more weight and kept her pinned by that leg.
>”I’ll ask again, how do I get out of here?”
>Her wings were spasming from the pain and blood was leaking from the hole, staining your fur.
“Southwest corner, southwest, its how we were leaving.”
>”Convenient. The same way your friends will go. I suppose it’s easier to get me that way then.”
>You stepped on her again, and felt something pop under you.
>The scream was delayed this time, but much louder.
>Tears were coming out now from what you were doing.
>”Different way, somewhere other than into a trap.”
>You stepped back and gave her some room.
>The leg was trailing blood and not moving at the joint as she curled up in a ball trying to cover herself with her wings.
“Just go, we won’t kill you. Stop, I’m begging you.”
>”Kill me? The bucking Hellmare tried and failed. You I don’t think will get the same chance.”
>Neck straining, you grabbed the rifle and pointed it at her.
>You saw her close her eyes as you tongued the bullet paddle.
>>
>>30800847
>The rifle vomited rounds, and tore itself from your teeth after a short burst, leaving it dangling by your neck.
>You saw fresh blood under the grifhen, but it was all in her cat legs, you hadn’t managed to shoot her in anything important.
>The radio lit up, you weren’t sure what they were saying, but you had certainly gotten their attention.
>This was actually useful, she wasn’t dead yet, and now you had their attention.
>Wrapping a wing around her neck, you dragged her toward a window, blood staining the floorboards in passing.
>You heaved her up onto the window sill and shouted at the murder below.
>”You let me go and she lives!”
>A waph on concrete was their response, the shards cutting into your face and making your eyes water.
>A different try then, maybe make her show she is worth it.
>”Wave to them, you said you wanted to live, well wave.”
>You grabbed the rifle in your wings and stabbed her in a side.
>The barrel made contact with her feathers first and smoked through before sizzling into her flesh and making her screech.
>Good to know, don’t handle by the bang bang end you figured.
>The radio was silent now, the only voice you heard was from outside the window.
What are the other Talons offering?
>>
>>30800850
THIS. IS. SPARTA!
>You scream as you kick her out the window.
>>
>>30800878
That's more what we're offering.
The Talons need their chance to negotiate.
>>
>>30800888
They can negotiate over the grifhens broken corpse. They need to know we're serious and ready to kick ass.
Also, nice trips
>>
>>30800923
It seems like a bad way to make them not want to kill us though.
"Oh hey I just killed one your squad, but I'm a flightless pegasus, so I'm walking away now."
And I mean they took a shot at us before anything even started.
I don't think they quite feel charitable if we really give them a reason.
>>
>>30800850
They want to be sure the grifhen will live and they're not negotiating for a corpse.

We probably should make sure we didn't do too much damage shooting her.

Fare from the Wasteland.
What other foods would you like to see beyond hay burgers.
>>
>>30803973
I've always figured that a lot of the more long term Wasteland living ponies, scavvers, caravanners, prospectors, the sort who can be weeks and months between civilization visits, would develop exotic off the land cooking.
Methods of cooking say radroach in their soft shell so they can substitute like seafood, being both are bug, or how to make a salad from plants that is in the same vein as the many salads we have today.
Perhaps a few figure out how to chop and grind their greens into a pulp and make noodles, then add fruit, a sugar reduction and some liquor to make a pasta sauce equivalent without flour
>>
>>30804460
To add to this, if we're on the subject of off-the-land cooking then I feel this would be an appropriate video/channel to follow, since it goes into the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QdwGClotcc

>You kept behind the wall as you listened, you didn’t trust whoever took a shot at you to be safe now.
“-safe passage and supplies in exchange for her. Just show us she is going to be alive.”
>Alive, huh that’s a good point, a corpse means no hostage, and they can just shoot you.
>She did look a bit mangled, particularly after the questioning.
>You looked at her, your supply bag and found a few packets of bandages with a griffon figurehead on them.
>They’d be useless outside of trade for you, the magic tuned more to griffons than you.
>You stayed low as you worked, a fidgeted kick of distress letting you know it wasn’t in vein when you ran the bandage onto her paws.
>Legs bandaged, you looked for any blood packs or other griffon only meds that might help.
>You pulled up a syringe of MedX.
>That would do quite well to perk her up.
>You stuck her in the thigh and pushed down.
>It was almost comical how it looked, you were sneaking around giving a grifhen a drug shot to not be shot.
>The Pinks were really out in force at this point you mused.
>Some life returned to her, you saw the tip of her tail twig around, so that was good.
>”You said you wanted to live and I could leave? Well your friends down there agree, they just need to see you’re alive,” you whispered in her ear.
“Down there?”
>”Yeah somewhere, they tried shooting me earlier.”
“They want me back, and you go free?”
>”Yes.”
“Okay.”
>She simply leaned forward and started falling out the window toward the ground.
>You hadn’t done her any favors with her wings, and she realized this too late when she tried to fly out.
>You scrambled to grab her, hooves sliding over her furry back as she kept going out the window.
>Then she just turned in on herself, bandaged hind legs suddenly became raking talons, scrabbling to find anything to stop her fall.
>>
>>30807377
>They found your leg and dug in tight, flesh shredding and mangling as her descent was temporarily halted.
>You were jerked forward, you managed to grab the edges with your outstretched wings and plant your hinds against the sill.
>You heard a name being shouted, probably hers, but you were focused on keeping its owner from becoming a pancake.
>You knew cats always landed on their feet, but there were no books of wisdom in the stable on whether griffons counted as cats or not.
>You grabbed her claws with you other hoof and it got the same treatment, about what you expected you grunted.
>But it was effective, and you were able to start leaning back and pulling her up.
>The sound of claws scrabbling on the outer stone was enough to give you some hope this would actually work, that maybe her squad would see you had no intent of killing her.
>A new spray of bullets stitched across the building, aimed at you.
>Stonework exploded, rounds clipped through your feathers, and two impacted the armor, failing to pierce it.
>Unfortunately, they also knocked the wind out of you and maybe a rib.
>You lost your hold on the window and fell down, your muzzle hitting the edge hard as you went inside.
>Your vision went white and you tasted blood as you fell on your back.
>You heard an avian shriek of terror, the hard beating of wings, and a dull meat on meat thud followed by the sound of broken glass.
>You scrambled to the window, falling on your muzzle again as your fores gave out.
>There was no grifhen pile at the bottom and you relaxed a little.
>Maybe she was okay and managed to fall in through a window.
>It didn’t matter to you now though.
>You couldn’t walk out of here anymore, you could barely fly before, and now it hurt to breathe at all.
>Your only options now were to fight or hope they would hold up their end of the bargain.
>It didn’t give you any hope though given you had been shot at trying to keep one of their own alive.

What do you do now?

I think food is one of those things that gets overlooked because it'd slow down the narrative if anyone stopped to describe what any character ate. In many cases I haven't read any book that designated any time to describe a character chowing down on something unless it had some plot convenience; ie. it moved them to a certain location where the next stage of the plot is set or gets them to a point where they then begin moving to the next major stage. It is unfortunate, because food could be used as a world-building technique in its own right, but without it having a plot-specific purpose then it's assumed they already ate at some point during the change in the scene.

Per that, I imagine there would be a great deal of meal of opportunity, grubs and shit as you said. But with the seemingly never-ending supply of pre-war processed and preserved foods then the menu of opportunity is fairly broad beyond the usual things ponies might go for, or anyone else trying to rough it. Shit, I imagine the bones of a radhog even would be make for a killer broth when boiled down.

>The gentle patter of blood from your legs was mesmerizing, almost peaceful in its melody.
>Plit, plit, plit
>You watched the drops just run down and get larger, their paths eventually repeating as your fur became caked.
>Peaceful, you could just keep watching this all day.
>The noise of a door crashing open brought you out of your fugue state.
>There was shouting, distant, far down in the tower, but you knew it was looking for you.
>It had to be the Talons coming out to finish their work on you.
>You moved to stand but couldn’t get your forelegs to move, in fact everything felt slow.
>Your moth was parched, and your vision cloudy.
>You needed to get water, but your eyes could be dealt with now.
>You started rubbing your face into a knee and everything went red.
>You recoiled, your body acting properish this time around.
>Your vision was coated in blood, your blood you realized from the pool around you.
>You raked your face with your wings, scared now at how close you had been to just bleeding out there.
>You could see better now, and went for the meager stack of supplies you had and pulled out a blanket.
>A quick step and tear with your teeth let you fashion a pair of bandage booties to try and keep all your precious blood in.
>Your blood had different ideas and wanted to get out, the bandages were already darkening.
>It was a race now, bleed out or get shot by a Talon.
>You found a bottle and drained it, your tongue slightly better for it.
>To the roof, you’d get to the roof and fly off, maybe lose them in the city wreck below and escape.
>Sensible, good plan, would have been better to think like this before shooting the grifhen.
>Shot, right, the Talons were shooting you as well from the start, you’d need a distraction.
>Well firing had gotten you into this mess, maybe it could get you out?
>Fight fire with fire? Wasn’t that the saying?
>>
>>30819847
>You hauled the rifle with you, walking hurt and you were leaving hoof spots of blood as it was.
>Wings out, you tried fluttering up a bit, tucking your hooves under yourself.
>It was barely off the ground, but you were at least moving, though the rifle kept scraping the floor.
>You went outside the room, into the stairwell, and started going up.
>You skipped the steps proper, you were flying, what did you need steps for at all?
>Weird that the grifhen was even following them at the start.
>Your mind was running around, all these little things coming and going as you went up.
>Driven out only when you smacked into the ceiling and fell onto the last landing.
>You went back to walking, no way they could find you without the obvious blood trail you had been leaving before.
>The door to the roof was there, but a large unlocked safety lock dangled from it.
>Oooh, you thought as you picked it off with a wing.
>The grifhen had been coming down when she found you.
>That made more sense.
>You walked out into daylight, it really felt like it should have been longer.
>There was a wall around the edges, enough to keep the Talon prick with a dick extender from shooting you again.
>It still hurt to breathe from his last try.
>Oh right, trap, you caught yourself.
>You looked around, there was a pile of roofing supplies, some wire spools and paint under a dusty cover.
>>
>>30819854
>Just what you needed.
>You pulled out a spool of wire and tied one of the buckets to one end, threaded it through the trigger of the rifle and tied it off.
>Simple enough plan, throw bucket from one end, fly away as the rifle went off.
>Good plan.
>You walked off, bandages now crimson and leaking as you went to the edge.
>This was a great plan, it was the only plan you needed right now.
>You hurled the bucket over the side, and waited.
>One Maud Pie, two Maud pie, three Maud Pie, four
>The gun went off and you dove over the side, wings out and catching a thermal.
>You had escaped, there was nothing to stop you now.
>You wavered, your wings failing and drooping.
>Well just the blood loss part now.
>You’d need to figure out a new plan now, but first you would just sleep.
>Your body went limp and fell out the thermal, back toward the tower.
>The grifhen from earlier watched you, hoped that you were going to make your escape.
>She saw you ragdoll and lolled to the window, her splinted legs not a problem for what she had planned.
>Your course was too high and you bounced off the side of the building, pinwheeling through the air as you tried to stabilize, to throw yourself into a window or anything other than just keep falling.
>The grifhen was out the window, banded wings tucked tight, she lived up to her looks as a falcon and dove.
>She was catching up to you, and you pushed your bandaged hooves out to her, the ground coming up.
>The wrappings shredded, uncoiling as they went between her hands.
>A flutter of your wings, and you slammed into her breast, her limbs clamped tight and held you there as she flared, your speed dropping rapidly.
>It wasn’t enough and she tucked into a roll, you went with it for a bit before flying off toward a pile of dirt and stone.
>>
>>30819862
>You came too with a griffon standing over you, awkwardly holding your own revolver at you.
>In his off hand were a bunch of loops of varying size.
>Oh Tartarus no, no not after all this.
>He threw them at you, and you just dropped your head back, hoping it might just kill you.
>Slavery.
>All this and you were being made to put yourself in a bomb collar and hoof cuffs, to be sold as property.
>”Buck no. I ain’t doing it.”
“They’re going on, either you do it, or it goes the nasty way.”
>You felt weak, sick in the gut from all this.
>Blood loss had done nothing to help with this.
>You still felt drops dripping off your legs.
>You were powerless here.

Do you put the slave gear on yourself, or make him do it?

Sort of.

It depends on both the paper and the markers you use. And you have to get a feel for how much they bleed into the paper so they don't go over the lines. and have a white paint marker at the ready to fix it when you do. Ironically, I'm using some cheap chinese imitation copics on regular cardstock to get the best, most even color.

I see.
On ponies, would hoof weapons be used?
More of, should hoof melee be used over mouth melee?
Bladed horseshoes over baseball bats, triggered guns for ballistic hooves?

I finally managed to make my second iteration of the dialogue system!

I had to develop a second one because the blueprint system of unreal engine is almost incapable of managing data from excels files dynamically
so I had to learn how c++ works in unreal engine.

It took me way more than expected but fortunately I found etodd's dialogger! a tool for creating dialogue graphs and exporting them as json object
So I developed a plugin for unreal engine that imports dialogger's dialogues. Now not only I have the dynamic dialogue system I was looking for, although I will expand it in the future, but everyone with a pc can make dialogues.

I need some advice for the dialogue interface, what do you think?

Make it the bastard child of classic Fallout 1 dialogue UI and the MGS radio.

How are you going to make buildings for that grid?
>>
>>30846696
Noice.
And here I was going to just suggest tsv files with a text importer.

I'm not familiar with UE4, why couldn't this be done in Blueprints?
>>

And the willing win.
Oh just where will this go as our little mascot gives up control in order to live?
>>
>>30847045
I could do it in 2 way. I could just create the 3d asset as a normal static mesh and place invisible obstacles inside it to mimic the building inside the grid. Or I could create an general object that can occupy more than 1 tile and then make a subclass for buildings. The first is easy and I can already do it, for the second I must implement few things. But now I'm concentrated to make an UI for combat time so I'll think about it at later time.

>>30847081
I was with my first iteration, but unreal doesn't manage csv files dynamically. So I couldn't just make a general dialogue component and then change the csv file for each character.

>>30848327
You could do it, but you have to buy a plugin from third party studio on the unreal engine marketplace. The unreal engine doesn't have an in-engine dialogue system. Since I'm using this project to learn how to make a game and how the engine works it didn't seem right to buy a plugin. So I made mine. Also I'd like to release the project on github and I could game problem with someone else's code inside it.

Also the blueprints system doesn't manage json files dynamically. Technically it doesn't manage them at all, if you try to import a json file with the standard tools the engine convert it to a data table. That is the in-engine variant of a csv file. You have to make your own importer in C++ if you want to use them as blueprints object. So I did exactly that.

Sure, okay, but the dialogger ui looks pretty similar to the blueprint ui to me - a flowchart with variables and whatever.

Why even import anything into blueprints - couldn't you could just write branching dialogue in the engine's blueprint system and drive the UI and whatever?

because there isn't a blueprint system for dialogues.
you CAN create a dialogue with blueprints but it's something like this https://wiki.unrealengine.com/NPC_Dialogue_System_Tutorial
you basically have to hard code every single dialogue, which looks like pic. for a roleplay game with like hundreds of dialogues it's just not feasible
with this I have a single component for dialogues and I just need to import a json file

Its funny that the more complex engine is worse, given that a few xrefs or even bastard go tos with some checks would work.
Hell enums with cases would be great, tick off a variable for each case, default is always go back a step up to exit.

>You eyed the restraints, and back to the Talon.
>Resistance here was useless, he’d just put them on regardless of what you did.
>Shakily you grabbed them, hooves quivering.
>You forced the bomb collar on force, with it on your neck you could bear the cuffs going on.
>You pushed it on, and with a ratcheting click the adjustment strap was on.
>It was loose on your neck, you might be willingly put it on, but you certainly didn’t intend to keep it.
>Woozily you put the cuffs on, or at least tried.
>Your motions were uncoordinated, anger, fear, and the pounding in your head made it hard.
>At least your wings were free in this.
>The cuffs were shackled to each other, all meeting in the center.
>You definitely weren’t galloping like this, even if you had the strength.
>”There, happy?”
>You flopped forward, your gait shaky as you approached him.
>”The grifhen, will she be alright?”
>Predatory eyes looked at you, making sure you hadn’t played any tricks with the restraints.
“She’ll fly again.” He said, a claw tugging the collar snug.
“Follow.”
>He lead off and you tried to keep up.
>Each step the chains tugged taught and relaxed, their clinking slowly growing softer as you began to zone out.
>The griffon was talking, but he was so far away.
>You opened your muzzle to ask for a break when you blacked out.
>When you came to the griffon was over you, the pistol holstered.
>You chuckled.
>He wasn’t getting you as a slave after all.
>You closed your heavy eyes and fell asleep, wondering what was to come.

End of Part 1.
