The art is great, and it does a good job of clearly portraying the action. But what really gets me is Raggie's "voice" and tone. Based on the words she chooses, she seems she would have a somewhat upbeat voice or have a quirky/sarcastic tone ("Looks like that's checkmate ma'am"). But then the human said she sounded regal, and then she starts saying all this mentor-tier stuff... I had trouble thinking about what her voice would sound like. That kind of thing is really important to me because it sets the tone for the whole story. Some consistency with how she speaks would do this strip a lot of good, I think.

Otherwise, it left me wanting more, in a good way. I'd keep reading if there was more.

Thanks for reading it guys. I'm taking into thought all the comments and criticism to help improve the coming chapters. They'll be much quicker from now on since i've got a handle on the style and i'm less shit at it than i was a year ago, and more motivated. I had months of downtime at some points in this chapter.

I should have made it 100% clear that the comic wasn't going to be just raggie being cute with anon, theres only so much of that i could do before getting bored. Sorry about that one.

I miss when Raggie was for occasional lewd. It's for the better it was dropped though.

I liked the idea of a Hagwarder ideally needing to fugg its human because it deepens their bond allowing it to defeat very strong hags. But only certain Hagwarders can mate with their human, and only during specific circumstances still, as attempting to mate with the human at the wrong time can be disastrous.

5/10 - Very average. The art is really good but the writing and flow of the narrative is cliche and boring. I found myself skipping over pages the first time i read it because i just didn't feel vested in this little story. I tried to go into this as someone who doesn't know anything about Raggie to give it a fair chance and it ends up leaving more questions about the CHARACTERS and their relationships more than anything.

I main issue is that this entire comic comes off as having very little planning or storyboarding. instead of having a strong beginning, middle, and end planned out for this chapter its just "stuff happening" page by page. I get the impression that the writers put very little thought on how the tone or feel of this first chapter was going to play out, which makes the tone all over the place. I dont know what this comic is about because i find myself asking too many questions: Is this comic about Raggie? Hagwarders? The human? What is the relationship between the human and the doll? They're dolls but their mouths move and have facial expressions? I find myself being taken out of the narrative too much because I have all these questions as its happening. This can be a huge problem.

Honestly this story should have been just about Raggie and her plight. She is the most interesting character in this story and it would be nice to see her ups and downs as a character so that the viewer can relate. I find myself not really giving a fuck about the hagwarders. i'm more interested on why Raggie is the way she is, where she comes from, and what her purpose is.

This all seems like a jumbled mess of ideas with no strong relationships between the characters or strong narrative. Sorry if you don't like my opinion but this is how I feel about it. You can come in here and explain away all of my issues but these are my first impressoin. I came into reading this with the mindset of someone who didn't know anything about Raggie. And this is what you should have done. You have to ASSUME your reader knows nothing of the lore or relationships between all these characters so that your first chapter is a strong introduction to newcomers.

So far this is "Shit That Happens: The Comic" - Excellent art with a few composition issues but a very weak story, considering this is an introductory chapter.

In some measure of defense, I think that those kinds of questions were presented to the reader in order to have them come back and have them answered. I think that there will be a return to Richard that will show some of their relationship building between him and Raggie (though I do agree that building the relationship beforehand would have given the reader more investment from the get-go).

I think that the transporting via mirror is within the realms of understanding for most people, but knowing more about Hags, the Warders, the Land of Nod, and Raggie's motivations and personality would have helped in understanding with why she had to leave so suddenly.

Despite agreeing with some of your points, I think this is a serviceable first chapter if you can live with the fact that some questions will simply need to be answered later. But I will concede that for newcomers with a blank perspective on Raggie and the Hagwarders this will probably be a bit confusing.

Personally a 6.5 or 7/10 from me for a really well done fight scene, and some fun and personality building dialogue between Wetweave and Raggie (though the bit about sinking Battleships felt a bit out of place).

I understood that and dont mind that. Questions for the reader is obviously a good thing. The only thing I really liked was some foreshadowing when Raggie assumes the human will be okay even though she's been gone for 20+ years. That was a good hook for the reader to keep going but it was at the end of the chapter.

I went into this wanting to like it, believe me. But I can't just sit here and sit on my feelings about it.

I understand the trope. But within the story it doesn't make sense. Are we in the mirror world now? Or are mirrors some kind of vehicle for interdimensional travel? My main criticism is that this is a first chapter of "things that happen" rather than it having a strong narrative with proper story beats and characterizations that let the reader get invested in these characters.

I have to agree entirely with this. If you come at this from someone new to Raggie and all, it leaves far too many questions raised alone. Not to mention the really odd pacing and 1/3 of the chapters being a mindless fight scene.

That said, coming at this as someone who knows about Raggie, it was jarring, to say the least, having Raggie fully talk and have facial expressions like crazy. A few panels came off slightly strange with a doll giving smirks or somehow moving their 'eyes' around. I feel keeping her mute and using the writing board would have been a better way to have her introduced instead of being extremely talkative.

I don't know who this human is, why I should feel anything of Raggie leaving him, nothing. I seriously thought that it was just 'another night' of killing hag things and she was off again to do so somewhere else right away. Until they mention "all this time" and then right after "goodbye" which had me more confused than anything and shrug off any kind of emotion that possibly could have been there. There's no chemistry and it felt rushed.

If there was more to that, it could have easily been fleshed out a bit better. Could have taken precedent over the large action scene that I ended up swiftly skimming over just to get through it. Yes, it's neat, but felt pointless.

Another thing is why do these dolls look pony and nothing else? Not the hags or anything. Could be something explained later on and I can cut it slack there. Still something that raises a brow but I won't harp on it.

The art was nicely done for the most part and looked real well. A few panels bugged me such as one with Raggie sitting during their chess game with Wetweaver and it looks like she's standing instead. I am interested in seeing if some things are addressed, answered, cleared up, etc. but it felt like a really rocky start to this.

Guess I'd give it... a mediocre score. Giving numbers doesn't gauge what I want to point out properly.

You should perhaps maybe make a mini comic just explaining all the little things, like at the beginning of a film when they go through the characters and location to really flesh it out and immerse the reader

Clearly the characters had their roots as MLP OCs so it'd be stupid to pretend that a lot of the attention it's garnered wasn't because of this fandom but it was actually a topic we talked about a lot. We knew that if we didn't change them then people would say what you have but if we did change them people might not have liked that the characters changed and then we also worried if people who didn't like MLP would be put off by it. But at the end of the day we stuck with it, we both really liked the character designs that already existed and whilst we experimented with plenty of human designs didn't agree on one we'd want to replace the horse characters with.

I get the sense that the first chapter is all about exposition and world-building, useful for those not familiar with Reggie and Hagwarder lore, so that's probably what's got some people grumbling, though world-building clearly appeals to the writer (and to me because I write too) there is a bit of "get on with it then."
